Unfinished Business:

IV.

New Business A. MSPAS Program - Medea Valdez, Executive Director  Course work for 6 semester, 98 credit, year round program,  2016 accreditation visit. Only new program in NJ until 2020. Positive outlook for provisional accreditation which is a fully recognized accreditation status.  State has given more authority to PAs. Likely to have even greater growth than predicted as a result.  Number in cohort grows in increments of 30, 35, 40, so just under 100 at any given time.  New building is now fully enclosed. Inside work is in progress-flooring, paint and other finishing touches. Expectation is to be settled in by spring break, fully completed by end of spring semester. First cohort will have 1 full time tenure track faculty member initially and up to 4-5 in the future. Including a couple of "teaching" administrators. Expectation for 110-12 faculty/student ratio. Teaching resources will include-Simulations

software, mannequins, in a simulator lab. The possibility of a clinic in the future, still looking at guidelines, not definite yet.  No connection to our present Health Services due to HIPA regulations. Students treating students allows for violation of privacy laws. More likely a once per week free clinic for the community in the future.  First initial PA movement took place in the 60s, due to a shortage of doctors, but also a surplus of medics coming back from Vietnam.  Reciprocity? Can a PA from state work in other states, countries? National certification, valid in all 50 states, but not international. PAs must apply to each state for licensure.  Pharmaceutical courses offered? Program includes two courses, faculty to take place in the future.  Hospital affiliation? Partnering has been achieved with eleven hospitals so far, other health profession programs on campus have been very helpful in this effort.  What's the difference between a PA and a nurse practitioner? NP comes from a nursing model of care; PAs come from a disease model of care. We both treat patients.  How long before accreditation? Three step process, provisional accreditation before accepting students, visit in 2016 can accept students with the understanding that we need to get moved forward with accreditation. Following year, the accrediting agency checks back in with the program and grants full accreditation. Once again they check with the program after the first class graduates and get continuing accreditation on a ten year cycle.  Program passed unanimously B. DL proposed revisions to process for Hybrid courses – Proposal has been withdrawn and no changes will occur at this time

V.

Concerns:  Questions with the asbestos abatement? George Chang reported that there is sampling being taken place daily and that it is occurring in front of his office also.  Questions arose about the non-functional network printers? OCIS is on it. Adjournment
