Posting: December 2016 Start date: September 2017 Position Number: FY17-19 Division: Academic; Social Science Department Union Affiliation: Massachusetts State College Association (MSCA) Application Deadline: 15 April 2017 Supervision Received: Reports to the Chair of the Social Science Department and for review of assessment results to the Vice President of Academic Affairs Supervision exercised: Supervises student personnel in areas of responsibility General responsibilities:  This position requires an ability and credentials to teach introductory course in American Government  Teaching and advising in a four-year college setting  Participation in the College governance system

  Qualifications and requirements:  Ph.D. in Political Science, Public Policy, Sociology or Anthropology  The candidate would also have appropriate and robust teaching experience at the college level and excellent written and oral communication  Tenure track appointment at the Assistant Professor level requires an appropriate terminal degree  Tenure track appointment at higher levels requires a doctorate and significant teaching experience at the post-secondary level  Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty and administrators Preferred qualifications:  Ability to teach one or more electives within the department  Familiarity with unique mission of Massachusetts Maritime Academy Desirable Assets:  Tutoring experience  Experience with assessment of student learning  Varsity athletic coaching experience at the college level   Salary: Commensurate with experience and subject to the MSCA collective bargaining agreement plan.
