HOME ECONOMICS Tuesdays LOCATION: Room 229 INSTRUCTOR: Ms. Atwater DATES: 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/25 MAX ENROLLMENT: 10 FEE: $68 for 6 weeks (includes $20 materials fee) In this much-anticipated new program, students will learn how to do useful tasks around the house. From sewing, to cooking, to woodworking, to fixing your car, participants will go from being domestically challenged to household heroes. Many of the basic (and more complex) home responsibilities will be closely taught in a fun, safe environment for boys and girls in grades 5-8
MINECRAFT CLUB Wednesdays LOCATION: Galvin Learning Commons INSTRUCTOR: Ms. Harvey DATES: 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 5/3 MAX ENROLLMENT: 24 FEE: $40 for 5 weeks Minecraft Club gives students an opportunity to bring in their own device and log in to their existing Minecraft accounts. They will have the chance to build while collaborating with friends who can inspire and push them to do more! Students must have a laptop or other device that can be brought to school. Parents must set up an existing account prior to participating (accounts will not be provided by the school). Minecraft or Minecraft Pocket Edition may be used. This is not a “course” for learning Minecraft, but rather a forum for students to use as a place to enhance their playing experience.
POETRY CLUB Tuesdays LOCATION: Room 349 INSTRUCTOR: Ms. Murgo DATES: 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/25 MAX ENROLLMENT: 10 FEE: $40 for 5 weeks Are you looking for a creative outlet to express yourself? Are you interested in reading and writing poetry? If you are, then Poetry Club may be the perfect opportunity for you. The club will meet once a week to discuss poets and their poetry, what inspires people to write poetry, as well as time to practice writing our own poems. The club will be an open space where aspiring poets can hone their craft, share their work, and provide feedback to fellow writers.
DEBATE CLUB (Grades 7 & 8) Wednesdays LOCATION: Room 328 INSTRUCTOR: Ms. MacInnis DATES: 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 5/3 MAX ENROLLMENT: 20 FEE: $40 for 5 weeks In this new club, participants will have the opportunity to discuss various current event topics in a number of debate formats. If you have a strong opinion on different current events and enjoy engaging in educated discussions, then this could be the club for you. Students in this club will not only expand their knowledge of the world around them, but also improve their negotiating and public speaking skills.
GUITAR CLUB (Grades 6 – 8) Tuesdays and Thursdays LOCATION: Room 225 INSTRUCTOR: Ms. Montero DATES: Tuesdays: 3/21, 3/28, 4/4, 4/11, 4/25 Thursdays: 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, 4/27 MAX ENROLLMENT: 15 FEE: $80 for 5 weeks (10 sessions) Welcome to the Guitar Club! The lessons in this program are created specifically for students who are brand new to the guitar. You don’t need any previous knowledge to get started with this course. All of the basics will be covered for both acoustic and electric guitars. By the end of these lessons, students will be able to strum and know enough chords to play parts of their favorite songs. Every student must provide their own guitar with an extra set of strings, guitar picks, and a guitar tuner. If using an electric guitar, students must provide their own amp and cables.
YOU ROCK!!! (Grades 6 – 8) Wednesdays and Fridays LOCATION: Room 225 INSTRUCTOR: Ms. Montero DATES: Wednesdays: 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 5/3 Fridays: 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/28, 5/5 MAX ENROLLMENT: 15 FEE: $80 for 5 weeks (10 sessions) If you possess a previous instrumental and/or vocal experience related to popular genres of music and want to rehearse with a band and perform your favorite songs, then the You Rock!!! Program is perfect for you! In this club, there will be intermediate bass and guitar lessons for students with some playing experience. Participation in this club will provide a substantial amount of practice to help take your ability to the next level. Students who already play acoustic or electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, or sing can join the Rock Band ensemble and rehearse in a small group. Participating students must provide their own instruments and corresponding equipment.
KIDS’ TEST KITCHEN Thursdays LOCATION: Room 107 INSTRUCTOR: Kids’ Test Kitchen staff DATES: 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/13, 4/27 MAX ENROLLMENT: 15 FEE: $90 for 5 weeks (No Academy Discount) Kids’ Test Kitchen is on a mission to get young aspiring chefs cooking, tasting, and thinking about healthy ingredients! We’ll work together to prepare fun snacks, entrées, and side items whose key ingredients are known to be really good for us! March comes in like a lion and will hopefully go out like a lamb, so this session we’ll be creating recipes that are hot and comforting, and some that are light and refreshing! At the end of class your aspiring chef will receive the main ingredient, or a sample of the prepared dish, so that they can show off what they’ve learned! Kids have food allergies, but they shouldn’t miss out on the fun. We know allergies and can work around them, making sure that everyone is having fun and staying safe. ARCHERY Fridays LOCATION: Gym/Fields INSTRUCTOR: Mr. Wait DATES: 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/28, 5/5 MAX ENROLLMENT: 25 FEE: $99 for 5 weeks (no Academy discount) Archery is for everyone!! While learning the skills and techniques of the sport, children also develop patience, focus, and camaraderie. Archers will move through a progressive shooting process to improve their shooting form, technique and accuracy. Bob Wait is a certified USA Archery Level 3 National Training System Coach. All equipment provided by On Site Archery.

REGISTRATION - The appropriate course fee must be paid with a registration form. Checks should be made payable to Wakefield Academy and returned
to the school office. Please note REGISTRATIONS ARE DUE THE FRIDAY PRIOR TO THE START OF THE PROGRAM. ENROLLMENT - Based on a first-come, first-served basis. STUDENTS WILL ONLY BE NOTIFIED IF A CLASS IS FULL OR CANCELLED. Class rosters will be given to the instructors. INSUFFCIENT ENROLLMENT - In the event a class does not reach full enrollment, Wakefield Academy reserves the right to cancel it. Notification will be given and checks returned. OVER ENROLLMENT - In the event the course selected exceeds the enrollment limit when the registration forms and checks are received, you will be notified and your check will be returned. CANCELLATIONS - If the Wakefield Public Schools are closed, Enrichment classes will not be held. If the weather worsens as the day progresses, an announcement will be made in school to cancel Enrichment classes. Whenever possible we will make up the class missed. TRANSPORTATION - It is the parent’s responsibility to see that his/her child is picked up at the end of class. Please check class end time as they do vary. We reserve the right to charge a late fee for late pick up. Please indicate if your child will be walking home at the conclusion of a class. ROOM ASSIGNMENTS - All students should meet in your school’s designated Wakefield Academy location at the end of the school day. REFUNDS - There will be no refunds once a class has started. Any refund requests must be made to the Director. DISCIPLINE - Wakefield Academy takes pride in offering boys and girls worthwhile and interesting activities. Parents should review proper school conduct and the Anti-Bullying Rules with their child at home. In the event a child’s misbehavior disrupts a class or he/she is not following the school rules, his/her parent will be contacted with the appropriate action to be taken. We reserve the right to dismiss any student from participation in the program. Please review the Wakefield Academy Handbook for specific details on expectations for students. There will be no refunds when a student is dismissed from a program for disciplinary reasons. SNACKS -Water only.
