My student and I are interested in participating in the AVID College Preparatory Program.
A brief interview is required for consideration and admission into the AVID program. This needs to be scheduled with the AVID coordinator of Granite Hills.

The purpose of the interview is to establish if the student meets the AVID Program requirements and has a desire, determination, and commitment to go to a university immediately following high school graduation. Interviews will be held on an appointment basis during the month of May or June for students who are recommended or interested in the program. Interviews will last approximately 15 minutes. AVID MISSION AVID is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance. The mission of AVID is to ensure that all students, especially the least served students in the middle, complete a college preparatory path. AVID students will: o Succeed in the most rigorous curriculum, o Enter the mainstream activities of the school, o Increase their enrollment in four-year colleges and o Become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society.
AVID Student Profile: Students who have the potential and motivation to qualify to attend a four-year university and: ♦ have appropriate classroom behavior, ♦ have a 2.8 or higher GPA, ♦ have regular attendance and good work habits, ♦ have the ability to complete college preparatory work and are committed to preparing for honors, AP and IB courses, ♦ are willing to commit himself/herself to daily homework required to maintain a 2.8 or higher in high school, ♦ may be the first in their family to attend college, ♦ desire to gain the skills necessary for university admissions.
The AVID student: ♦ Is willing to commit to enrollment in a rigorous college prep sequence of courses leading to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses. ♦ Is willing to participate in summer school to create schedule options that will allow continued enrollment in AVID throughout high school. ♦ Has average or above average citizenship grades and regular attendance.
AVID Activities: ♦ Learning with college tutors through tutorials ♦ Writing for all classes ♦ Developing success strategies ♦ Applying for four-year university admissions, scholarships, and financial aid. ♦ Visiting college campuses ♦ Interacting with college and career speakers ♦ Participating in extracurricular activities and community service ♦ Team building activities to further success in a college environment
AVID Facts: ♦ Nationally AVID serves over 320,000 middle and high school students. ♦ Since 1990, over 30,000 students have graduated from AVID programs internationally. ♦ Currently there are AVID programs in over 141 middle and high schools in San Diego County. ♦ CA AVID graduates complete the “a-g” course sequence necessary for acceptance at a UC or CSU school at an 89% rate; the CA state average is 36%. ♦ 97% of AVID graduates enroll in college, 66% in 4 year institutions and 31% in community colleges, 83% of parents have less than a fouryear college degree.
