GHS Daily Announcements September 25, 2017 UPCOMING NEWS: Varsity Football will meet at 4:30 PM in the weight room today (Monday). Practice on the field will follow. There will be no practice for Freshman or JV per district policy. Attention Men's Cross Country Runners! There will be no practice today. Please get out and run sometime during the day 3-5 miles easy. Tuesday will be normal time. Track workout - High intensity! Attention students: Do you have a parent or family member that is a nurse, physical therapist, or has some sort of career in medicine? The counseling team is looking for a representative in one of these professions to participate in this year's senior conference. Please contact Mrs. Beckett for more details! . Students, if you are interested in helping with props, makeup, publicity, or set crew for the fall production of Huckleberry Finn and haven't already signed up, please email Mr. Tower or Mrs. Fischer. They will send you a form to fill out to let them know how you're interested in helping. We've got lots to do to so that the show can go on, so email them today if you're interested in helping. Juniors and Seniors: The Powder Puff Game has been scheduled for October 26! Permission slips and jersey order forms are now available in the 1st floor office, all participants musts have a completed permission slip turned back in to the office by Monday, October 2 to play. Do you dream of seeing the Eiffel Tower, eating a crepe while strolling the streets of Paris, touring a medieval village in the Pyrenees Mountains, or basking in the sun on the beaches of the French Riviera? If so, there will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in going on the France 2018 trip in Mrs. Callendar's room (218) on Tuesday, September 26 at 7pm. Students must complete at least French 1 before attending the France trip. Please see Mrs. Callendar for details. Mrs. Fischer has planned a trip to see Les Miserables downtown on Tuesday, November 21. Tickets are $52 and must be paid in full to reserve your seat. GUIDANCE OFFICE NEWS: Juniors and Seniors: You will now be notified and can view upcoming college visits on your Family Connection site. On the home page and under the colleges tab. You will still need to do the actual signing up on the google form sent out by Mrs. Wolf about a week ahead of each visit. Progress Reports can now be viewed through the parent portal. Go to Reports and open HS Progress Report 1 @ 4 1/2 weeks. If you have a question regarding a grade, please call or email the teacher. College Visits: DePaul University will be visiting Tuesday, September 26 during 6th Hour in C-21 Interested 11th and 12th grade students will be able to sign up through Google Forms on their email account and must have permission from their teacher during the hour of the visit. Locations for each visit are included on the email and vary depending on the visit. Please see your counselor if you have any questions. Ms. Mattice is in need of a senior girl to tutor a student in Algebra II. Please see her in the counseling office if you are interested. Service hour eligible. GRCC's Workforce training program is now offering a CNA: Certified Nurse Assistant program that can be completed in 6 months. They will have free informational sessions on Oct. 10 from 5-4pm, Nov 14 from noon - 1pm, and December, 13 from 4-5pm. Go to www.grcc.edu/healthcare to sign up! The GRCC Fall Open House will be held on Saturday, October 28 from 10am - 1pm at the Wisner-Bottrall Applied Technology Center. One lucky participant will win a $500. The University of Michigan is starting a program called the Go Blue Guarantee. If you are admitted to the Ann Arbor campus, with a family income of less than $65,000. ATHLETICS: Girls Rugby had a close game this weekend against rival ruggers from Sparta. Dawgs WIN 29 -21. It was a full team effort with multiple assists and amazing tackles. Addie Ochoa and Angelina Pollice were instrumental players in this game. Senior Matja Saarenheimo – Vanderhorst was our top scorer, scoring 2 trys, sophomores Olivia Bowen, Grace Dykla and freshmen Hannah Koorndyke all scored trys, sophomore CiCi Lowe helped our Dawgs win the game with two conversions. The JV Tennis team took on Holland Christian in The Kennel last Thursday, devouring them 6 to 2. Winning teams for Dogtown were: Mason Herb and Nolan Woodruff at singles. In Doubles: Hopkins and Kopenski, Emaus and Kooienga, Kooyer and Vandoeselaar, and Dam and Yentsch. Challenge accepted, challenge destroyed. The JV Tennis team placed 3rd at the Conference Tournament last Saturday. Matt Kocsis (COACHES) placed 4th in Flight 2 Singles, Trevor Dunn and Chase Kooienga placed 3rd in Flight 3 Doubles, Trent Balley and Josh Lawrence placed 2nd in Flight 2 Doubles, Noah Edidin and Kelly Herb placed 2nd in Flight 4 Doubles, and Ian Doyle and Caleb Sheehan were Conference Champs at Flight 5 Doubles. Well done Racketeers! The Men's Varsity Cross Country Team came in 8th place at the Cougar/Falcon Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Zach Theeuwes came in 12th place and ran a 17:17. Senior Jack Gumieny came in 29th
place and ran an 18:10. Sophomore Isaiah Salguero and junior Bryce Wright came in 49th and 50th place respectively. Both Isaiah and Bryce ran an 18:41. Senior Gavin Tucker came in 80th place with a 19:26. Rounding out the top seven were junior Zach Shidler, and freshmen Drew Berens, and Dan VanHarmelen. Zach came in 90th place with a 19:40. Drew and Dan came in 92nd and 93rd place with both of them running a 19:41. Next race for the Bulldogs is on Oct 3 in the second OK Red Jamboree. The Men's Junior Varsity Cross Country Team came in 4th place out of 20 schools at the Cougar/Falcon Invitational on Saturday. Leading the way with a second place finish and time of 18:41 was junior Victor Chemjor. Sophomore Santiago Saldivar came in 14th place with a time of 19:43. Freshman Austin Visser came in 25th place and ran a 20:09. Junior Brett Schuitema came in 37th place with a time of 20:28. Freshman Garrett McGovern came in 59th place and ran a 21:04. Junior Seth Warren came in 63rd place and ran a 21:18. Rounding out the top seven was Adrian Walker.
