Good afternoon, My name is Omaira Tejada. I am an alum from City College of New York. I am currently a Patient Outreach Coordinator for Preserve our Legacy, Inc. I am reaching out to you for support in helping pass Jaden’s Law NY (A4171) by participating this coming June 9th, 2015 for our lobby day to Albany. About Preserve Our Legacy Preserve Our Legacy is a notforprofit 501(c)(3) organization that was started after the devastating loss of a 3year old boy named Jaden Hilton. Jaden was diagnosed with leukemia in April 2006, and to survive he needed a stem cell (bone marrow, PBSC or cord blood) transplant. Unfortunately for Jaden, no one in his family was a match and he needed an unrelated donor. Due to the lack of available donors within the National Registry, Jaden, like many other ethnic patients, lost his battle because he could not find a match. After his death, Preserve Our Legacy's mission became to increase awareness about the need of bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC), and cord blood within various ethnic groups. Accomplishments ● August 25, 2010 – NJ Governor Christie signed Jaden’s Law into legislation ● December 2010 – P.O.L. Cord Blood Program launches at Harlem Hospital ● May 3, 2011 – NY Governor Cuomo signs resolution naming May 3 “Cord Blood and Bone Marrow Registration Day for NY State” ● Now in 2015, we want Jaden’s Law (NY A4171) to be passed in NY State Facts About Jaden’s Law ● Information and awareness about bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) and cord blood on NYS Department of Motor Vehicles with online brochure. ● Adding information about the need of donors with voter registration card. ● Online brochure about need of bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) and cord blood. Define details about treatment options provided along with the need of ethnic donors on NYS Department of Health website. ● Provide locations where individuals can register to donate bone marrow, peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) and cord blood within New York State and NYC. Lobby Day June 9th, 2015 Time: 6:30 am 5 pm Where: State Capitol Albany, NY Transportation will be covered I hope to hear from you soon. This is a great way for you and your group to contribute to the overall wellbeing of individuals, families and kids suffering from lifethreatening diseases, especially ethnic groups.
