EAGLE TRAIL News & Notes for Scouts, Friends and Families of BSA Troop 25 - Archdale, NC
Got Some Questions About Summer Camp? With Summer Camp just a couple of weeks away (June 26 through July 2), we know that you or your Scout probably have a lot of questions. That’s why Troop 25 started conducting an annual meeting to help get your Scout (and you) prepared for camp. This year’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 21 at 7pm in the Fellowship Hall. Until then, here are some FAQs from the Raven Knob website... • Are Class A uniforms required at meals? Troops are encouraged to wear Class A for the evening meal. • How cold is the lake where the Scout’s swim? Unlike some high mountain lakes, Lake Sobotta is cool but not alarmingly cold. The temperature will vary depending on the weather and the time of day. • Do Scouts going on the Camping merit badge over-nighter need to bring a tent?
Yes, they do need to bring a backpacking tent. • Can I bring my electronics like my laptop, iPod, or cell phone? We do not encourage Scouts to bring such items to camp. Spending the week in camp is a great opportunity to make new friends and learn new skills. Electronics can be a distraction to the wonder that surrounds us while at camp. Please note that Camp Raven Knob is not responsible for such personal items be they lost, stolen or damaged. • How much money should my son bring to camp? This varies from Scout to Scout and family to family. The camp does have a well-equipped Trading Post offering snacks, forgotten items, and scouting-related novelties. Most boys bring $30.00 - $50.00. • How many people can sleep in an Adirondack? Each Adirondack has six built in bunks with mattresses. Youth and adults do not share Adirondacks.
Soldier Care Package Don’t forget that the Troop is collecting items to send to Troop 25 Eagle Scout Clark Millikan, currently deployed in Iraq. Clark was a Senior Patrol leader, OA member and active in his church, Archdale Friends. Items to consider include socks, foot powder, body wash, VapoRub, lip balm, hot sauce, water flavoring packets, beef jerky, sunflower seeds. If you have any questions, please contact Tommy Riggins.

Best Darned Corn Bread
Here’s an easy recipe from The Scout’s Outdoor Cookbook for an award-winning corn bread. Ingredients 4 (6-1/2 ounce) packages of Betty Crocker corn bread mix 8 eggs 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 1 (15-ounce) can sweet creamed corn (do not drain) Instructions 1) Mix all ingredients in a well greased 12-inch Dutch oven. 2) Using 17 coals on the lid and 8 briquettes under the oven, bake for about 45 minutes. Once the top of the bread turns golden brown, it is ready to serve. Serves 10-12. Option If camping when blueberries are in season at your local store, add about a cupful to the mix, baking as usual. This brings the taste to new heights!
