TA Blakelock HS 2016/17 Grade 10-12 Registration Info Letter We are looking forward to seeing you at TABHS on Wednesday, Sept 7, 2016 at 11:00 am for a free student BBQ. Classes run 12:02 – 2:40 pm. Timetables - updated timetables (with rooms and teachers) will be handed out on the first day of

school from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Students are encouraged to take a picture or copy of their timetable as there are no further reprints.

Guidance counsellors are available on a limited basis during the last week of August. Please click here for appointment priorities. All parents must read the Medical Danger-Anaphylaxis and Use of Information forms –will be emailed soon. Watch for the following forms to be handed out during the first week of school. Your student will need to return them to their homeroom. Student Information Verification - Please update with current information and parental/guardian or 18 yearold student signature. It is essential that we have work and emergency telephone numbers to contact you in an emergency. We rely on parent/guardian email addresses as we email announcement / student absence information to parent/guardians. Important information is also regularly posted on our website tab.hdsb.ca. Parents of all students must sign and hand in The Promotional Use form each year to allow/disallow any of their children’s pictures to appear in publications such as school newsletters, yearbooks and other printed matter. A completed Medical Needs form is critical for students who have serious medical conditions such as lifethreatening allergies, diabetes, and/or seizure emergency. If you need one they are available in the school office. Lifetouch Photo package brochure - Student photographs will be taken on Sept 13. All students must have a photograph taken for student/library card and identification. Student cards are handed out on Sept 13 and are used with the Cashless Schools on-campus wallet. Please dress appropriately (no hats, offensive or suggestive writing on shirts). Additionally, photo packages can be purchased - refer to the Lifetouch brochure for pricing information. Lifetouch brochures will be sent home the first week of school.

Lockers/Locks - Lockers can be selected on the first day of school. All lockers must be locked with a combination lock. Locker number and combination information will be collected during the first week of school. Locks placed on lockers prior to the first day of school will be cut off. We no longer sell locks – please bring one!

Bussing Info - Bussing information will be available in late August, 2017 at www.haltonbus.ca. Bus stickers for student cards will be handed out mid-September.

Student Network Passwords - Student network logins become active on the first day of school. These credentials are handed out in computer class. Students can also get them in the library on/after first day of school. Attendance Portal – as in elementary school, parents must report all absences, lates and sign-outs to hdsb.schoolconnects.com or 1-877-409-6310.

HDSB Parent Portal – Parents are able to check daily attendance through the Halton District School Board website. After the first week of school, go to http://info.hdsb.ca/sis/StudentInformation.aspx and login with your student’s nine digit Halton Student Number (found on report card) and birthdate.

Fees We are a Cashless school! All school fees over $5 - registration, spiritwear, field trips, athletic fees will be available to pay online. Please pay all fees as soon as possible - online at https://halton.cashlessschools.com. CashlessSchools is an easy, secure, well-supported payment system that allows staff to have more time with students instead of enormous time collecting and counting cash. Students are safer not carrying large amounts of cash/cheqes.

Contact the 24-hour support line at 1-877-383-7056 if you have any difficulties. Conside signing up in early August when it is less busy. Parents can also preload funds into the student card ‘wallet’ for use in the cafeteria. We have a great cafeteria! Please note: student card wallets can only be loaded with funds online. If not paying fees online, limited staff will be available to take cheque payments (payable to TA Blakelock HS) on Sept 7 and 8 at the school. Long lineups are expected. Student Engagement (all students): $30.00 Enriches school life for all students: includes Grade 9/ Welcome Week activities/barbeque, Mental Health Awareness Week, Healthy School initiatives, support for school co-curricular and engagement programs, student recognition and involvement, student councils, guest speakers, assemblies, student leadership training, Grade 8 to 9 transition activities, Tiger Crew & A-Team, school-wide spirit and communication, anti-bullying and some graduation activity. None of these initiatives are funded by the Ministry of Education or taxes. A sincere thank-you for supporting this voluntary fee – without your student engagement support, many of these initiatives could not occur. Physical Education: $25.00 Fitness Centre annual membership $75.00 Athletic Sports fee – a once/year fee collected from students in their first season of team play. This fee helps support our athletics program including purchase of equipment, uniforms, officiating costs, and helps support pre-season play. A Secondary Interschool Athletic Participation form will be collected by each coach. $ 7.00 Blakelock Phys-Ed Cotton T-Shirt – mandatory - must be worn by all grades $15.00 Blakelock Phys-Ed DryFit T-Shirt – this can be worn instead of the cotton t-shirt. $15.00 Blakelock Shorts– min 3” inseam black shorts or pants (can be purchased anywhere) must be ------- worn by all grades, no spandex. 

Purchases can be picked up in the Phys-Ed office during the first week of school.

Student Yearbook: $45.00 In cases where there is any sort of financial hardship sponsorship is available - so that no student is denied full participation in the school life at TA Blakelock HS.
