Grace Brannigan is in the Spotlight. Week 51 It seems like you first “really” started publishing in 2012, Since then it seems you have been publishing every other month or so. How do you do it? Did you have a lot of material stored up? GraceBrannigan

 I have been writing most of my life. I was traditionally published with Silhouette Special Edition under my pen name Elaine Nichols back in 2001. I kept writing all through the years and I used to even write some non­fiction and children’s books that I self­published way before most people were thinking about it back in the 90’s.I had quite a few romances in the wings through the years, but due to family issues my writing was put away for quite a few years. When I really began to look at the market again, I suddenly saw lots of people doing the very thing I had begun in the 90’s, self publishing. But now it was so much easier and automated almost. So I did a lot of research, dusted off the manuscripts, some of which were half written or lacking endings, etc. I rewrote all my manuscripts, finished the ones lacking endings, sent them to an editor and then slowly began to upload them to Kindle and Smashwords. For me, I saw it as an exciting opportunity to have full control and get my stories out there. Do you co­write with anyone? No. Though I have a niece who is a wonderful dark, fantasy writer and we may do something together down the road. Do you or did you have a full time job? Besides writing. I like diversity and have several jobs. :­) I’m a freelancer/self­employed gal at heart. I have a seasonal lawn maintenance business, I transcribe court hearings and paint art on shoes and silk. Do you follow a strict writing schedule? Nothing strict about my writing, though I generally write at night. It seems to be my best time. I try to write every day. One book I wrote 50,000 words in a month. It’s the only time I’ve ever been able to do that. Everything just flowed. Most books take 3­6 months. I let it sit for a bit, go over it once more, then send it off to an editor.

Any interesting writing related habits you would like to share? I like to hike, and I’ve gotten some really good story ideas or resolutions for something that I’m stumped on a story line, while walking. Any future plans as a writer? Keep on writing the best stories I can. I love writing about strong women and the men who love them, whether they’re cowboys, guys from a time long gone, or fantasy romance about faeries like in my current works Faeries Lost. All my stories center around traditional family values. My main characters make mistakes but they try to act with the best intentions. Right now I’m finishing up Hear Me, the 3rd book in my Faeries Lost trilogy.
