Administrative Procedure 159
GRAPHIC AND TEXTUAL STANDARDS FOR CORPORATE IDENTITY Background It is essential that the district’s visual identity, as presented to the public, is clear and consistent at all times. Graphical and textual standards regarding the use of the district’s logo and other means of identification are a means of ensuring that identity. These procedures are developed in support of Board Policy #1. Procedures 1. The district logo, or its namebar, including its typestyle, size and colour shall appear on all documents generated in schools and departments that are intended for public circulation and on all district means of communication and other items, including but not limited to: Letterheads Pamphlets Newsletters Public Notices Advertisements Calendars Locally produced videos, CD-ROMs Certificates and diplomas District, school and department websites

2. The following elements are to be considered in determining the appropriate use of graphic and textual standards for corporate identity: 2.1.
The Logo Design
The logo is comprised of three components; the logo, the colour and the typestyle. The logo is to be used in its entirety (logo, colour and typestyle together) for all applications

2.2.
2.3.
2.1.1
The cross in the centre of the logo depicts the Catholicity of the district.
2.1.2
The two interlocking “C's” that form an 'S' in the centre of the logo represent the initials of the words Calgary Catholic Schools. The interlocking pattern suggests that it is within the school system that one's sense of Catholic community will be realized.
2.1.3
The double block shapes represent a stylized open book, a universal symbol of learning, projecting the message that the district is primarily an educational community.
2.1.4
The lines forming the top and bottom edges of the book are not parallel; instead, the lines begin at the centre of the logo and project beyond the logo, suggesting transcendence.
2.1.5
The district's logo symbolizes unity (through the interlinking of the two “C’s”), diversity (through an open book symbol) and the student striving to realize his or her potential (through transcending lines) within the community of Calgary Catholic schools.
2.1.6
In addition to the graphic portion of the visual identity, the logotype "Calgary Catholic School District" must always be presented in Myriad Bold upper case. No other typeface may be substituted. Both components of the visual identity are to always appear together.
Colours 2.2.1
The district's colours are black and gold. Black is the mix of all colours suggesting the infinite potential of a complex community; gold is the colour of aspiration.
2.2.2
The logo can appear entirely in black, in white or in the district's official colours. The district's colours are black and gold (PMS #871 in the Pantone Matching System). No other combination of colours is permissible.
2.2.3
On presentation materials such as certificates, plaques, and awards the gold portion of the visual identity is to be shown in gold foil, wherever possible. The black portion is to remain in black.
2.2.4
For negative (reverse) applications, the logo is to appear in white or the same colour as the background paper stock.
2.2.5
In four-color (CMYK) reproduction the gold is to be specified as 20% cyan, 25% magenta, 60% yellow and 25% Black. Black would be specified as 100% black.
The Namebar Design
The namebar is for use by schools to add district identification to school stationery and publications.
