PHILOSOPHY: ENRICHMENT VS. ACCELERATION

ACCESS TO ADVANCED COURSE WORK GIEP students will have the option to take a final exam for required course content and accelerate to the next course. 1. Students/Parents must schedule to take the final exam for the course from July 1st –August 1st.

2. Student must score above and 85% on the final exam. 3. Students may only take the final exam one time for acceleration purposes. 4. The student must take the final exam in the high school office suite.

5. Students who successful score an 85% on the final exam in the requisite time limit will be eligible for the next course in the sequence. ie. Algebra II Final Exam Score 85% (without district instruction), eligible for Geometry.

MOOC’S AND INDEPENDENT STUDY CREDIT Independent Study: .25 credit • Completed MOOC courses that are 5 – 10 weeks long will be awarded .25 credits for independent study.

Independent Study: .5 credit • Completed MOOC courses that are 11– 18 weeks long will be awarded .5 credits for independent study.

DUAL ENROLLMENT & EARLY COLLEGE OPTIONS • **Dual Enrollment and Early College Partnership with Reading Area Community College • Reading Area Community College (RACC) in partnership with Daniel Boone High School is offering a **Dual Enrollment and Early College opportunity to students. The partnership consists of courses that are offered at the high school, online, and on the RACC campus. These college course may count toward high school graduation, apply to RACC associates degrees, and transfer to many other college and universities. Students can earn dual enrollment credit through taking courses approved by RACC and taught by highly qualified high school faculty. Students pay a reduced tuition for courses taught at the high school, while students pay a low regular tuition and fee rate for courses taught online and at RACC’s campus.
