Saturday, February 15th, 1997 Harbinger Friends: The future does not contain or embody progress because it lies forward in time (the 21st Century). We know nothing about the behaviour of a two member set from the analysis of either of its members alone. Sodium burns in water. Chlorine is a toxic yellow-green bas. Put them together. They form an essential nutrient: salt. We take things apart with our hands and with our minds. We often take things apart in order to know or to understand what something is, what its constituents are. We may, however, fail to observe all of the connections or the relationships which account for its synergy. Observation by analysis can very deluding. We attempt to reason and to know representationally. We manipulate symbols. We think with words. We talk in our heads. We relate things as objects, a though they had free-standing existence. We use grammatical and syntactical relationship in our utterances: "the sun is setting", "it is raining"! What is raining? We generate a word-made-world. We then stand before our experiences, puzzles and perplexed. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Stop. Stop talking in your head. Zen is, perhaps, more something you stop doing than something you do. Stop using your senses to tell you what is true by seeing light reflected from surfaces of form or by hearing sound generated by the motion of surfaces or by reflection from surfaces or by feeling with your fingers, the texture or surfaces of form. Dr. Robert Laidlaw introduced me to a woman: Louise Berle, who had experienced Zen Satori. She spent days, walking around New York's Central Park, just caressing the wrought iron fence. It connected her to so much. Gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. Serotonin is an excitatory neurotransmitter with an indol-ring structure in its molecule. Serotonin is concentrated in the region of the brain stem known as the raphe nuclei. These neurons project the hypothalamus, the thalamus and other regions. Psylacybin and LSD have the same indol-ring structure as serotonin. Most of the central nervous system is inhibitory. GABA (gama amino butyric acid) is perhaps the most widely prevalent neurotransmitter in the brain. The basic strategy of all sensory input is to first, multiply the signal, second, combine the signal with possible perceptional patterns, then, thirdly, allow some and disallow others. Multiply, combine and select. Why allow the unallowable with little control over that to which one directs one's attention? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Bad trip. Why gamble with your experience or your destiny? Learn Zen. I cannot support, contribute to or combine with the stale, uninformed content which is proposed for the Alleg Oracle. Count me out. Disconnect. I have hoped that those who gained references by their explorations with drugs, could understand what I meant, what I point to, by such means. Hardly so! Thirty (30) years later, there is no recognition of what I so passionately attempted to show and to say. Huxley said to his wife, Laura, "don't seek heaven". So many religionists are caught up with rewards and punishments. Those who have had near-death experiences, by contrast, find that they encounter understanding instead. We tend to want some kind of vacation or retirement, some respite from effort, some rest or reward. I seek none. I seek only to be useful. I seek only to function. I seek only to be, more than to do or to have. We need neither courage nor fear. Being is it sown justification. Laura Huxley was told by Krishnamurti that we need to give up the itch we have to help people. Laura told Krishnamurti, "but you help people". He replied, "but I don't mean to". _________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So it is with me. I regard you as friends, but friends who make choices with which I cannot combine. Carla wrote a letter asking me for forgiveness for the upheaving effects to which she has contributed in my life. I do. I don't, however, want to get in range and risk another such clumsiness. Gracefulness and gentleness are such important parts of my life. For some short while, I would entertain being invited to some appropriate point of rendezvous to share what I have explored and discovered. It would need to be at the expense of those who do the inviting. I only have what I use and use what I have.
