(i.e. regulatory compliance, data analytics, electronic applications and systems used in the healthcare environment, data governance and data management, data privacy, confidentiality and security and HIPAA Law, analytics and decision support systems, consumer informatics, health information exchanges, project management). Have you reviewed the health informatics career map to get a feel for your area of interest? LOCATING A PPE SITE

    

Have you begun looking online for job descriptions that match the type of work you would like to do? Do you have healthcare organizations or related organizations that you can approach about completing your unpaid internship? (i.e. Hospitals, medical practices, insurance companies, Red Cross, etc.) Are you talking to friends and family who work in healthcare or who can refer you to people who work in healthcare? Have you begun to look into volunteering at healthcare agencies or facilities so that you can tap into these organizations as possible internships? Action: Please use the Employer Research resources to identify organizations that you can approach in your area. If you need assistance, please make an appointment with a Career Specialist.

RESUME & COVER/PROPOSAL LETTER

   

Have you reviewed the video Finding & Creating Internships for tips on how to create your proposal? Are you updating your resume with your certifications and relevant coursework as you progress through your program? Have you created an internship proposal outlining the value your will bring to prospective employers? Note: You can also use this to create your cover letter during the job search Action: Please email your resume and proposal/cover letter for a review by a Career Specialist. Be sure that the resume and proposal/cover letter are in Word format.

SOCIAL MEDIA & NETWORKING

    

Do you have a LinkedIn profile? If yes, have you used it to reach out and connect with WGU students and alumni in your program or industry? Are you part of the LinkedIn WGU – Western Governors University Alumni & Student group? If no, please see Action item below. If you are part of AHIMA or HIMSS, do you engage with these professional organizations via live events, webinars or other resources?
