2D PATHWAY (DRAWING/PAINTING/PHOTOGRAPHY) Prerequisite: Intro to Art or Visual Arts/Comprehensive I; Additional Courses: Drawing/Painting and/or Photo

Description: The 2D Visual Art Pathway at Grady is in place to nurture young artists and create a platform for them to develop a powerful and personal visual voice. Beginning with Introductory art, the 2D pathway may continue through drawing and painting, photography, or a combination of the two. The completing student may continue up through advanced photography and/or AP Studio Art culminating in a senior thesis exhibition, mural fabrication, and other public art opportunities.

3D PATHWAY (FIBERS [FASHION]) Prerequisite: Intro to Art or Visual Arts/Comprehensive I; Additional Courses: Fibers and/or Sculpture

Description: The 3D Pathway at Grady is in place to encourage and challenge the spatial awareness and skills of the student. Beginning with introductory art, the 3D student may choose sculpture or fashion as a completing pathway. The culminating student will be included in exhibitions of their work in AP Studio Art, campus and public sculpture installations, and/or in the Senior Fashion class show. _____________________________________________________

ACTING/DIRECTING PATHWAY Prerequisites: Fundamentals of Drama Additional Courses: Acting I/II; Advanced Drama

Description: Students will focus on performance, culminating with directing a one-act play or performing for a public audience in your senior year.

ADVANCED COURSES/DUAL-ENROLLMENT PATHWAY

The student will take 3 AP and/or the correct number of dual-enrollment courses in a particular content area: 3 advanced courses in ELA, Math, Science or Social Studies. _____________________________________________________

APPLICATIONS OF THE LAW PATHWAY 1st Course: Intro to Law, PS, Corr, Secur 2nd Course: Essentials of Legal Services 3rd Course: Applications of the Law

Description: Students who have a genuine interest in the study, practice, application and execution of the law will benefit from the applications of the law pathway. They will experience learning the law from a first year law school and a governmental and private practice perspective. This will include legal reasoning, legal interpretation, legal researching, presenting both oral and written arguments, legal ethics, office management, maintaining client and professional relationships, trial procedures and techniques, use of technology in the study and application of the law, judicial significance and insight and learning the value of a law degree, the challenges of their generation in changing the law and the importance of following the law in everyday life. They will have opportunities to participate in Moot Court as well as Mock Trial. They will have the opportunity to work directly with law students and participate in working in legislative offices during the legislative session. They will meet and hear from Judges who sit on local state and Federal levels of the system. The students will observe oral arguments made before the Supreme Court of Georgia. Upon pathway completion they have the ability to be placed in an internship with State and Federal government prosecutors and public defender offices, government agencies such as offices of the clerk of courts, municipal law departments and private law practices to gain hands on experience. _____________________________________________________

AUDIO-VIDEO TECH AND FILM PATHWAY Courses: Audio-Video Technology & Film I/II/III

Description: The Audio Video Technology and Film pathway prepares students for employment or entry into a postsecondary education program in the film, video and television career fields. These industries are emerging in Georgia therefore many opportunities to work in the industry will be available. AVTF students work in front and behind the camera producing Grady High School's news and sports shows. SkillsUSA is our cocurricular student organization providing more experiences for leadership and content growth. _____________________________________________________

BAND PATHWAY Courses: 3 years of Band courses

Description: Georgia Performance Standards for Band supports the National Association for Music Education (MENC) expectation of promoting a comprehensive, balanced and sequential music education for all students based upon the National Standards for Music Education. Georgia Performance Standards for Band are arranged in four categories: Skills and Techniques/ Performance, Creation, Critical Analysis/Investigate, and Cultural and Historical Context. The standards help organize the curriculum into manageable and related units designed to guide the student through valuable musical experiences. Band standards are divided into four experience skill levels: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and Mastery. Since the time allotment for band class varies across the state, the levels are based on student progress rather than on an academic school year. _____________________________________________________

BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES PATHWAY 1st Course: Intro to Healthcare 2nd Course: Essentials of Healthcare 3rd Course: Patient Care Fundamentals/Patient Care Tech

Description: Students go through the nationally approved sequence of biomedical science curriculum; which focuses on a hands-on, real-world problem-solving approach to learning. Students explore the concepts of human medicine and disease and are introduced to bio-engineering, including mapping and analyzing DNA. Through real-life experiences, students examine the processes, structures and interactions of the human body – often playing the role of biomedical professionals to solve a mysterious death. This program is for students who like doing experiments in science and want to get into the field of medicine. Professions that the students will be exposed to range from a registered nurse to a forensic scientist to a heart surgeon. _____________________________________________________

BUSINESS, MANAGEMENT & ADMINISTRATION PATHWAY 1st Course: Intro to Business & Technology 2nd Course: Legal Environment of Business 3rd Course: Entrepreneurship

Description: Students who elect to study in the Business, Management and Administration pathway are those who have creative ideas for products and services which he/she would like to promote. They can expect to have hand on experience in developing their idea, participating in Future Business Leaders of America, School Base Enterprise (Student run Business-Knight Armory), a day to market their business to the school and field trip. To this end, student may obtain pathway completion recognition, MS Office certification in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, working business idea for profit and scholarship opportunities. _____________________________________________________

ENGINEERING PATHWAY 1st Course: Found/Engineer 2nd Course: Engineering Concepts 3rd Course: Engineering Applications

Description: Engineering & Technology Pathway combines hands-on projects with a rigorous curriculum to prepare students for the most challenging post-secondary engineering and technology programs. The students will build solid writing, comprehension, calculation, problem-solving, and technical skills. The students will be encouraged to take relevant math and science courses, such as advanced algebra, chemistry, calculus, geometry, trigonometry, physics, design, and engineering concepts. Students who like to be challenged and enjoy working in teams on engineering problems will benefit greatly from this pathway. In addition to classroom and laboratory experiences, Engineering & Technology Pathway students participate in the Technology Student Association (TSA). Activities in Technology Student Association promote leadership skills, high standards of craft quality, scholarship, and safety. Through Technology Student Association, the students have the opportunity to explore your community’s industrial and technological resources, practice parliamentary procedures and democratic decisionmaking, and earn recognition for exemplary performance. The students that complete the program three years successfully and pass the NOCTI test for the Engineering Pathway program will receive certification from the State of Georgia as well as a certificate, medallion, and CTAE cord. _____________________________________________________

FASHION MARKETING PATHWAY 1st Course: Marketing Principles 2nd Course: Intro to Fashion Marketing 3rd Course: Advanced Fashion Marketing

Description: Introduces students to the fashion industry including the fundamentals of fashion marketing, types of businesses involved in the industry, and the array of career opportunities available in fashion marketing. Students will develop skills in such areas as fashion economics, marketing segmentation and target marketing, product selection and buying, and inventory systems. Advanced Fashion Marketing focuses on the application of knowledge and the performance of key skills required in a retail environment. Students develop skills in pricing, visual merchandising, advertising, special promotions, professional sales, and customer service. They will be able to explain the fashion cycle and the use of fashion forecasting as well as learn to understand the concept of economics and the laws regulating the fashion industry. _____________________________________________________

FRENCH PATHWAY Any three of the following courses: French 1, French 2, French 3, French 4 or AP French

Description: Since almost all colleges now require that high school students take 3 years of the same foreign language in order to be admitted, the World Language Pathway will benefit any student who is college-bound. Students who want to become bilingual in today’s international society or who want to increase their English literacy and analytical thinking skills will also benefit. We currently offer Spanish, French, and Latin. Extracurricular activities include the International Club, French Club, and Latin Club. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in various academic and speaking contests at the annual FLAG (Foreign Language Association of Georgia) Contest and the state Latin Convention. Earn three credits of the same world language (French, Latin, and Spanish); one of which may be an AP/DualEnrollment course. _____________________________________________________

GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS PATHWAY 1st Course: Introduction to Graphics and Design 2nd Course: Graphic Design and Production

3rd Course: Graphic Output Processes

Description: All students wanting to build Graphic Communications skills and strengthen their professional portfolios in order to enter the workforce with confidence and those wanting the employability tools needed to maintain a successful design and printing career are encouraged to enter the Graphic Communications pathway. Students in the Graphic Communications pathway will participate in hands-on projects, real world job opportunities, participate in rigorous competitions, and grow professionally through national organization like SkillsUSA. When the students complete the pathway, they will immediately be more marketable to employers in the industry. Some may become industry certified, while others can continue onto graphic communications and graphic design postsecondary institutions with strong portfolios of knowledge and experience. _____________________________________________________

GUITAR PATHWAY Courses: 3 Guitar courses

Description: The Georgia Performance Standards for Guitar are designed to be used in homogeneous, group-instruction acoustic guitar classes in grades six through twelve. The standards are based on the MENC National Standards for Music Education and are designed to provide a sequential and developmental framework for students from beginning through the mastery level. They are arranged in four major categories: Skills and Techniques/Performance, Creation, Critical Analysis/Investigate and Cultural and Historical Context. The standards are organized into the following grades and levels: 9th – 12th Grade: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, and Mastery. _____________________________________________________

JROTC PATHWAY Courses: 3 years of JROTC (This will also fulfill the REQUIREMENT to complete Personal Fitness AND General Health.)

Description: The Junior Reserve Officer’ Training Corps is a leadership education program. This program will help students build a strong knowledge base of self-discovery and leadership skills applicable to many leadership and managerial situations. Mastery of the Army Junior ROTC standards through project-based learning, service learning and leadership development activities will prepare students for the 21st Century leadership responsibilities. The curriculum focus is reflected in its mission statement, “To motivate young people to be better citizens.” This program intends to teach students to:

• Maximize potential for success through learning, self-management and development of employability “soft skills” •

Develop leadership skills

• Incorporate principles of mental and physical wellness into behaviors and decisions with health and wellness awareness • Build effective relationships with peers, co-workers, and the community with information and communications skill development •

Apply physical and political geography to building global awareness

• Understand the importance that financial, economic, business, and entrepreneurial literacy have in the work force • Correlate the rights and responsibilities of citizenship to the purposes of the U.S. government through civic literacy •

Relate events in U.S. history to choices and responsibilities Americans have today

• Characterize the role of the military and other national service organizations in building a democracy and maintaining peace in a democratic society.

Description: Students will focus on vocal and dramatic work, culminating in a full-length musical theatre performance for a public audience. _____________________________________________________

ORCHESTRA PATHWAY Courses: 3 years of Orchestra

Description: Develops musicianship skill through the performance of orchestra literature with a focus on individual and ensemble techniques. Orchestra participates in several concerts per year. Students may also play the school musical. _____________________________________________________

PRINT JOURNALISM PATHWAY 1st course: Journalism 1 2nd course: Journalism 2 3rd course: Journalism 3 and/or 4

Description: The print journalism pathway is for self-motivated students who are interested in writing, design and photography and who work well in a team environment. Students have the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles for the publications, including writers, editors, designers, photographers, accountants, art directors, catalogue editors, submissions committee chairs, finances and fundraising directors, etc. Students who excel in the program as juniors will have the chance to apply for editorial positions as seniors. Many students in this pathway have gone on to pursue college and professional journalism opportunities. • Students on the Southerner and Nexus staffs will write both for the print and online editions of the publication, and they will design and create graphic elements for print, for the web and for the publications' social media platforms. • The literary magazine serves any student with previous journalism experience who demonstrates an interest in reading, analyzing and producing creative writing. As members of the literary magazine, students will gain first-hand experience compiling, designing marketing and editing a published work (i.e., The Unmasking Literary Magazine).

• Any student who wants to preserve memories of Grady High School is welcome to join yearbook. There's room for everyone: Writers, photographers, designers, marketing gurus, and other creative individuals. Students will dive deep into the publication process--from developing a yearbook theme and designing the layout of each section, to creating stories, captions, and pictures from scratch to comprise yearbook content, to devising a marketing plan to ensure we generate business funds. Endless leadership opportunities exist within yearbook, for the class is run as a small business.

While it focuses on the Sports and Entertainment industry, the skills developed in this pathway can be applied to any business setting. It is geared toward both college-bound students and students planning to directly enter the workforce upon graduation. Students in this pathway will deepen their understanding of the Sports and Entertainment industry by working directly with local businesses and participating in DECA, the marketing club. Through state and national DECA competitions, students have the opportunity to apply skills they have developed in the classroom. Guest speakers and field experiences add real world relevance and depth to the curriculum. Upon completion of the pathway, students will be able to

develop promotional plans and materials, secure a job in sales, and demonstrate proficiency in writing business communications. _____________________________________________________

TECHNICAL THEATRE PATHWAY Prerequisites: Tech Theater I Additional Courses: Tech Theater II/III; Advanced Drama

Description: Students will focus on several tech roles in theatre, culminating in designing or stage managing a show for a public audience in your senior year. _____________________________________________________

VOCAL MUSIC/CHORUS PATHWAY Courses: 3 years of Chorus

Description: The Vocal Music Pathway is designed for students that enjoy singing and want to develop their vocal and musical skills. Students will have opportunities to perform individually and in large and small ensembles, in a variety of styles and genres in and outside of the school environment. Upon completion, these singers will be prepared to participate in professional or collegiate choral/vocal programs or to study vocal music at the college level.
