Here is a quick introduction or refresher for using PhotoStory 3 Tools: Open PhotoStory 3 and click Begin a New Story Click the Next> button at the bottom of the page

Note: If you already have a project and want to work on it again, Click Edit a Project. When you are working on an old project and click Save, the program will tell you that there is already a project named what you are saving and ask if you want to replace it. Click Yes and your project is updated and saved.

This page will appear.

Click on Import Pictures.. A file browser will pop up allowing you to look for the file in which you have saved your pictures. The location of your pictures will depend on whether you save to a file on a server within your building, or if you save to My Documents on your individual computer.

Once you have found the pictures, Click Import If you want to import more pictures, repeat the steps. You can import more pictures any time during this process.

1

After you import pictures and click Next, this page will appear.

This page allows you to edit the pictures you have brought in by using the tools at the bottom of the picture that is featured in the middle of the page. You can move back and forth among the pictures by using the arrows at the side of the picture that is framed or by clicking the picture in the picture tray at the bottom of the page. You can also change the order of the pictures by clicking and dragging the selected picture to the position you want it to be in.

If you want to edit the pictures, click the Edit button and this menu will appear. You can use the tabs at the top of the page to edit, or you can use the edit tools at the bottom of the main page. If you want to crop a picture the Crop button needs to be checked. The tool is set to a certain proportion that you cannot change which limits what you can do with this tool. When you are through editing, click Close. This takes you back to the import pictures page. Click Next to go on to the next part of your project development.

This is the area where you can type titles or add other words to your pictures. Notice the tools that allow you to change font, change font style and color, align text, and position the text on the page. You can also add a special effect to each picture by using the Effect button at the bottom of the feature picture frame. Note that you can begin to save your project on the previous page and also on this one.

You can use the < Back button at any time to do something on the previous pages.

This page allows you to do two things: Add narration to each picture and customize the motion that will be attached to the show. The slideshow already has a default Ken Burns effect which is placed on the story at the end. However, you can change the motion or stop the motion on this page using the Customize Motion button. Notice that you can type notes right onto this page under the sound spool or students can read from a paper. This feature requires that you buy a microphone for your computer. You can find good and relatively inexpensive ones at Radio Shack. You may have to go into the Control Panel > Sound, Speech and Audio Devices to select the microphone that you are connecting to your computer. Ask you ET if you are having trouble with this.

By clicking the Preview….button you can check out the narration and do it over if needed. This button provides a preview of all that has been done to the slide show up to this point.

When you click Customize Motion…You get a menu which offers two tabs at the top: Motion and Duration, and Transition. Notice in the first tab that you have to click the Specify and There are all sorts of transitions for you to choose from on end position of motion button when you want to change the the second tab. You can see what each transition looks like beginning and ending positions. by clicking the Preview…button

Click Save and Close when you are through with these features and go to the next page. Notice that you can save your Project any time after you have imported your pictures. This allows you to save your work and close out of the program in order to work on it later. However, this is not a finished product until you get to the very end of all of the frames and allow the program to render your story into a wmv format.

3

This is the page where you can add music by clicking either Select Music…or Create Music… The Select Music button is the one you use when looking for music from a CD you have. (Some of you are using iTunes for this.) The Create Music button is the one that takes you to the music included with the program. That page looks like this:

Take time to play with this feature to see what different Genres, Bands and Moods sound like by clicking the Play button. After you have selected what you want, Click OK and go to the next page.

This is where you decide what to do about saving your project. Usually you will choose the first option which is to save the story for playback on your computer. You will also decide the location to which you want to save Click Save Project and name it and Save using the pop up menu that appears. Important: You are not through saving! Click the Next button and the program will render your story, adding the sound etc. This finishes the project and puts all of the elements together in a wmv file for easy sharing and transport. If you were to Save and close here without clicking Next, you would not have a finished product but a work in progress.. Now you are done! You can choose to view your story or go on to create another one.
