Adams Central HS School Improvement Plan Goal #1: Students will demonstrate developmentally appropriate command of 21st Century skills. SMART GOAL: By the end of the 2015-16 school year, 12th grade students will demonstrate developmentally appropriate command of 21st Century skills at the “Proficient” or “Advanced Level” as per the 21st Century Skills Rubric.

Activities/Interventions: 1. 21st Century Skills and School Wide Learning Outcomes will be posted in all classrooms for grades 9-12. (beginning April 2012) 2. Students in grades 9-12 will be taught the school wide rubric for 21st Century Skills in all classrooms. (beginning April 2012) 3. Students will regularly have classroom assignments, projects, HW that will be focused on the 21st century skills in all MS classes. (beginning August 2012) Assessment: 1. Students will be given a pre and post test to assess understanding of the 21st century skills at the knowledge level. (beginning April 2012) 2. Student work will be evaluated using the 21st century skills rubric in each class a minimum of two times per nine week grading period. (beginning August 2012) 3. Student work that is evaluated will be scored and tracked by individual classroom teachers to determine proficiency level as per school rubric. (beginning August 2012) Resources Needed: 1. Access to college 21st Century Skills Rubric (beginning April of 2012) Staff Development: 1. All staff will be trained in the 21st Century Skills rubric. Training will be led by HS New Tech Teachers. (April of 2012). Timeline: Activities will continue to take place to insure all HS students are at the proficient or advanced level in all areas of the 21st Century Skill expectations at the end of 12th grade.

Adams Central HS School Improvement Plan Goal #2: Students will improve their standardized test scores/ECA’s through increased attention to authentic literacy in all content areas: real world reading, writing, and speaking experiences. SMART GOAL: By the end of the 2015-16 school year, 12th grade students will show a 5 percent increase in content area ECA scores.

Activities/Interventions: 1. Students will be exposed on a regular basis to content rich reading material in all subject areas at least one time per week and have opportunity to speak and/or write about their reading. 2. Students will be exposed to an article of the month in each grade level with regular opportunity to speak or write about this topic. 3. Quarterly participation on School/Locally developed Constructed Response Questions (one core content response per quarter) Assessment: 1. Overall Math/English/Biology ECA’s Resources Needed: 1. Locally developed list of strategies for implementing the interventions. 2. Current News Article Publications (Odyssey, Muse, Junior Scholastic, Scholastic News, etc.) Staff Development: 1. Review and Discussion of reading/writing strategies. 2. Staff will have opportunity to attend content area professional development related to reading/writing/speaking. 3. One Staff Development Day per month will be dedicated to studying, collaboration or sharing about authentic literacy and/or article of the month. Timeline: Spring of 2012 ECA scores will be used as baseline data for measuring improvement in this area. A comparison of scores will take place over the next two years.

Adams Central HS School Improvement Plan Goal #3 : Students will be prepared for the next level of learning through improved critical thinking and problem/project-based learning (PBL). SMART GOAL: By the end of the 2015-16 school year, 12th grade students will have completed a minimum of seven PBL projects in each core subject area. Activities/Interventions: 1. 9th-12th grade is committed to a minimum of two projects per year in all classes with at least one of those being combined with another subject area. (Beginning in 2012-2013) Assessment: As a beginning point, the assessment of this goal will be completion of the activities as listed above. Resources Needed: 1. Access to project library 2. Samples of HS PBL Activities 3. School Wide Rubric 21st Century Skills Rubric Professional Development: 1. Mentor/Mentee program for teachers. 2. Schedule visits to another school doing PBL (Columbus) 3. Meet with other HS/NT teachers to brainstorm project ideas. 4. Two PD days per month will be dedicated to PBL activities and/or collaboration. Timeline: Full implementation of New Tech PBL will be in place by fall of 2013.
