Home Reading Directions Dear Parents, Home Reading begins tonight. Your child will bring home this plastic envelope every night and should return it every day. We are fortunate to enough parent volunteers to help us change the books every day. Home reading envelopes will come home Monday – Thursday night, but not on the weekend. The • • •

contents of the envelope include: A leveled book at your child’s reading level for your child to read. A “parent read-aloud” book for you to read to your child. A Strategy Card for when your child gets stuck on a word, when they ask for help from you, please direct them to their strategy card and you can assist with the various strategies on the card. • A HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) fan for you to ask your child questions about the story when you are finished reading to them.

There is much research to prove that reading to your child longer after your child becomes a reader is beneficial and should continue into the upper grades of elementary school. Thank you for taking the time to read to your child every night. The more often they read and are read to, the sooner they will move up the levels, the more fluent they will become and they will have a higher level of comprehension understanding of text. Thank you for supporting your child’s reading endeavors. Don’t forget to sign the outside of the envelope each night so we know that your child has completed their Home Reading each night.
