Comments/Evaluation: (include review sources here)  Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, 09/01/15  Horn Book Magazine, 09/01/15  Publishers Weekly starred, 04/27/15  School Library Journal, 09/01/15 This is a picture book biography of Jane Addams and her biggest accomplishment, Hull House. The text is spot on for reading to younger students and the illustrations make it all real. I loved the story so much that I want to recommend it as an Armadillo book for next year!

Annotation: Jane Addams was 6 years old when she learned that not everyone was as well-off as her family. She wondered why people suffered in poverty while others lived in extravagant wealth. Jane vowed as she got older to help the poor. She settled in the worst part of Chicago and founded Hull House. Hull House was open at all times for all people – as a place to get food, take a bath, sleep, work, etc. What an inspiring story!
