For incoming freshman and new graduate school applicants, your information is pulled from your application for admission. For current undergraduate and graduate students, your information is pulled from the “Banner” system.

3 o

What is Banner? It is the administrative software used at UNC Charlotte to maintain financial, student, financial aid and human resources data. If you find information in your profile that is incorrect or missing, please contact our office for guidance.

Your profile includes 5 distinct sections: 

Instructions o This is an informational screen that provides you with instructions on how to apply for scholarships in the NinerScholars Portal. o Please read each section to confirm that you understand the application process. Certification o Please check the box at the bottom of this page to certify that you have reviewed and agreed to the terms and conditions of the NinerScholars Portal. Student Information o This section contains basic information about yourself such as your name, address, contact information, ethnicity, and your U.S. citizenship status.

4 o

Please review this section to make sure that your personal information is correct, then click the “Next” button. Educational Information o This screen contains your educational information such as your major, minor, enrollment status (full-time vs. part-time), your GPA, and current class.  For incoming freshman, your educational information will also display your High School weighted and unweighted GPA, and your ACT / SAT scores. Student Characteristics o In the final section, you will review specific student information, and will check the boxes that correspond to you. o Boxes include:  I am a non-traditional student  I am a veteran  I am a first-generation college student  None of these describe my status o Finally, you will indicate whether or not you are submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Your answer to this question will decide whether or not you qualify for “needsbased scholarships.”  If you are submitting a FAFSA, check yes.

Step 3: Submitting References Not all scholarships require references, but many do. Luckily the NinerScholars Portal is set up to streamline the recommendation process for all students. 

Click on the “References” tab on the top navigation bar to get started.

You will notice first that there are two types of references in NinerScholars: Academic, and Leadership.

5

Enter the name and contact information for each of your references into the corresponding boxes.  

Once you submit each reference, they will receive an email notification asking them to complete their reference on your behalf. The notification email looks like this:

6 

If for any reason your references did not receive the email, you can always click the “Resend notification” button. o The “Last Notified Date” box will show when the last notification email was sent. Keep in mind that these references can be used for ALL SCHOLARSHIPS in the portal, so make sure that your references know that the letter should be general, and not specific to one scholarship.

Step 4: Submitting your Resume All of the scholarships at UNC Charlotte will require that you submit a resume so that award committees can review your professional and educational achievements. 

To get started, click on the “Resume” tab on the top navigation bar.

All you need to do here is select your resume document, and upload it by clicking on the green “Upload File Now” button.

Step 5: Apply for Scholarships As soon as you submit your profile, you will be matched with the scholarships that you are eligible to apply for. 

After you upload your resume and submit your references, you are ready to start applying.

You will also have access to your NinerScholars “Dashboard” which gives you an overview of your scholarship opportunities and applications.

7

Click on the “Scholarships” tab on top navigation bar to see the scholarships that you are matched with.

8 There are four sections in each scholarship application for you to review. 
