The Story of How Two Orphans Became Sons As many of you know, Stacey recently returned from Ethiopia with two new babies that we eagerly welcomed into our home. As our family adjusts to these two new additions, we have realized that we have also recently witnessed God’s kindness not only towards the two physical orphans we now parent, but also to a spiritual orphan that we now call our brother. Let us share with you their stories…

Elias Daniel Ewenetu Hare:

Elias was born on July 11, 2010 to a kind-hearted

young woman. This woman, because of economic hardship, took her son to the local orphanage, hoping he would be adopted. We later discovered this precious boy was a result of a terrible crime: Rape. Elias’ mom did not know who his father was, but that did not seem to concern her. It was evident that her main concern was getting her son into a home that could provide for his needs. So we arrived in Ethiopia mid-March and are now happy to call Elias our son. At one point, he was very poor, the son of a criminal, and without a loving father. Thankfully, he has been given a whole new identity as the son of Dave and Stacey Hare and also a whole new life by being placed in our home. But we are coming to realize that the thousands of dollars and the tons of paperwork it took to adopt Elias is only the beginning of the process. The journey of parenting has just begun. The Lord has entrusted us with the very serious task of raising up our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. May God give us much grace! As joyous as this story of adoption may seem, we actually observed an even more remarkable adoption while we were in Cameroon this past October…

Abata, of the Baka People:

Abata was born into a godless tribe of people who

for centuries have been enslaved to dark animistic practices. Abata was born without hope and without God. He was born not a child of a rapist, but a child of God’s wrath who followed the “prince of the power of the air” (Eph 2). But over 20 years ago, because of God’s great concern for the spiritual orphans in the world, he sent World Team missionaries to Abata’s tribe. And after hearing story after story of the hope that is offered in the Gospel, this past October, Abata repented of his sins and is now following Christ as his Lord and King. Abata is now a fully accepted, fully righteous, on-his-way-to-Heaven, adopted son of God. He was once God’s enemy but now he is God’s son.

An Update from the Hares: To those of you who don’t know, we brought home two 8 month old babies last month. And so far, the entire family has adjusted well to having two more kids in the home. We are so grateful for a smooth transition!

But the World Team missionaries are realizing that the thousands of dollars and years of labor that went into making disciples among the Baka people is just the beginning of the process. They now have a spiritual baby among them that needs to be brought up to obey all that Christ has commanded. However, unlike our son who has access to the Bible, Abata does not. He does not have the Bible in his language and therefore he simply does not have access to all that Christ has commanded. Our brother’s growth in the Lord is severely limited.

So What Now? Jesus said, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Luke 10:2). Jesus’ solution to the lack of bible translators, church planting missionaries, and laborers in the Gospel is that you and I pray earnestly that the Lord would send out more people to do Kingdom work. So let’s pray…

That the Lord would preserve and grow Abata’s faith and that he would use him to reach the rest of the Baka people. That the Lord would send out more missionaries. Specifically, that he’d send out 200 Bible translators to Cameroon within this generation. That the Lord would provide all the financial support we need by this September so we can leave Louisville and begin our pre-field training. That the Lord would provide like-minded, hard working, committed, godly partners for us to work with on the field.


