Hive Learning Network Social Ties

Below is a draft framework, developed by Hive Research Lab, of the types of social ties that exist between organizations in a Hive Learning Network. It is based on ethnographic research conducted in Hive NYC during 2013 and 2014. We break ties down into three categories – those related to advice, brokering, and collaboration, with sub-categories for collaborations that are more oriented towards innovation and those more oriented towards spread and scale. This is a working document and feedback is welcome.

Advice Oriented Ties

• You observed this person/organization's programs or space to learn about an area of interest.

• …you ended up partnering with to develop a new initiative or engage in an area of interest.
