1 TELUGU WIKIPEDIA Telugu Wikipedia (Tewiki) is a colelctive effort of Telugu language enthusiasts to compile encyclopaedic information in Telugu Language. Please see http://te.wikipedia.org/wiki/ on how this work is progressing. It is our effort to bring Telugu within the first 20 languages of encyclopaedic family in size and quality. One focus area for Tewiki is to write an essay of one to two pages for each and every village / town / city in Andhra Pradesh. (But if you would like to write about a place outside AP, you are still welcome). Many small villages have history and culture spanning hundreds, and even thousands of years, but very few records are available. Tewiki is offering a platform to write about villages - even the remotest one - if you can help. This info can not be collected in Library or internet (till now). But YOU can write about a village or town known to you. WHAT CAN YOU WRITE? Since Wiki is a free encyclopaedia, you are free to write, within certain conditions •

Anything in wiki can be edited or extended by almost anybody.

And in Telugu Wikipedia, it should be written in TELUGU. We have given a few guidelines here on the information appropriate for Wikipedia about villages, towns & cities. (1) LOCATION: Names of village, mandal and district. This information is essential to put it in the correct place in Tewiki. You may also mention bus route, boundaries, geographical landmarks, nearest town etc. If possible, give the phone numbers of Panchayat office and post office. (2) STATISTICS: Population, Men/Women ratio, Literacy, house holds, streets, area, health & development indices - etc.

(3) FACILITIES: Schools, Colleges, Hospitals, Libraries, Posts, Shops, places of worship, tranport, cinema theaters, any other institutions. (6)CULTURE: Main facets of culure, any special customs, fairs, festivals, specific stories (7) SUCCESS STORIES: In agriculture, in other areas, Volutary organizations, health achievements, education progress, economic development etc. (8) PROBLEMS: Main problems, scientific solutions, any schemes in progress? (9) IN THE NEWS: Any news items related to your villages (10) PROMINENT PERSONS: Important persons from your village, people with special skills or talents, social workers . so on (11) ANYTHIN ELSE: Add anything else you can think of (12) PHOTOGRAPHS: Add one or two suitable photographs. It is better if you can take photos yourself. They should be in public domain (not copy righted)

HOW TO WRITE Have a look at http://te.wikipedia.org/wiki/ . In the first page itself you will see the link "Is your place available in Wikipedia?" (vikipIDiyaa lO mee vooru vuMdaa?). Follow that link. You will probably find a place holder page created with one or two sentences for your village / town / city. Go ahead and write more. If a page for your village is not available, you can create one and write about it. You need not hesitate. Any mistakes will be corrected by others. (And you can correct mistakes of others) Now it is very easy to write in TELUGU in Wikipedia. There is also a help page link with edit box.
