Hygiene Promotion Team Leader Project Manager – Emergency Response in Yumbe 9 Full Time Program Quality Bidibidi Refugee Camp, Yumbe, Uganda

Background Catholic Relief Services (CRS) carries out the commitment of the Bishops of the United States to assist the poor and vulnerable overseas. Our Catholic identity is at the heart of our mission and operations. We welcome as a part of our staff and as partners people of all faiths and secular traditions who share our values and our commitment to serving those in need. CRS is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) supporting relief and development work in over 100 countries around the world. CRS programs assist persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality. CRS works through local church and nonchurch partners to implement its programs. CRS has worked in Uganda since 1965, initially providing emergency assistance to Sudanese refugees living in the north. Over the years, CRS has expanded its programming to also address development needs in western, central and eastern Uganda. CRS’ projects in Uganda currently include agriculture, health, microfinance, peacebuilding and youth. CRS Uganda implements its programs through partnerships with local organizations, including the Catholic Church, other faith-based organizations and community entities for maximum impact and sustainability. Project Summary The recent fighting in South Sudan between government and the opposition has displaced thousands of South Sudanese community members who have been forced to seek refuge into neighboring countries, including Uganda. Following the rapid needs assessment and information provided via coordination with other stakeholders, CRS has identified critical gaps in settlements in Yumbe District that include water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), non-food items (NFI), livelihoods, and shelter support for those most vulnerable. The interventions will target refugees in zones 4 and/or 5 within the Bidibidi refugee settlement in Yumbe, which have been recently established in November 2016 and experiencing big gaps in WASH needs. These zones have poor household latrine coverage and low water supply but with high groundwater potential according to UNHCR Hydrogeological survey report. CRS will directly implement the interventions to improve the access of refugee households in Yumbe District to safe and sufficient water sources, livelihood opportunities, and non-food items related to protection and hygiene promotion in the Bidibidi Refugee settlement. General job summary The Hygiene Promotion Team Leader will lead on assessments together with the Water and Sanitation Team Leader, line manage one to two Hygiene Promotion Officers, train them as necessary and manage the day to day processes and organization of CRS Hygiene Promotion activities as part of the Yumbe emergency response.
