Hyper-V Networking There are 2 very different views into Hyper-V networking - Hyper-V manager and SCVMM

Hyper-V Manager

Using Hyper-V manager you can create Standard Switches. Rather then defining polices (like VMware portgroups) they only define upstream networking connectivity. There are 3 kinds: External - Connected to one physical interface (or a logical team), communciation with external network Internal - Communcation between host and VMs on the same host Private - Communcation only between VMs on the same host You can manage the switches using the “Virtual Switch Manager” in Hyper-V Manger on the right side

SCVMM

Connectivity and policy are defined directly on the VM

SCVMM add logical switches (similar to VMware dVSs), logical networks, and classifications. A logical network defines a set of VLANs that are all allowed on the same infrastructure; each physical NIC connects to a single logical network.

VLAN Configuration: Step 1: Add the VLAN to the logical network Step 2: Verify the VLAN is on the host adapter Step 3: Connect VMs to the VLAN
