An intense, fast-paced workshop with hands-on activities covering many of the basic Blackboard tools, Blackboard Boot Camp is recommended for faculty planning to teach online or hybrid courses or looking to more fully supplement their face-to-face courses. This series is designed for both full-time and adjunct faculty who wish to use Blackboard as a supplemental course tool. Both novice and experienced users can benefit from the series. Please plan to attend all four face-to-face sessions to fulfill the full Blackboard Boot Camp.

Many previous participants found the time to work on building / revising their own courses to be very valuable . . . below are some of the comments they shared when asked what they would tell another faculty member regarding Blackboard Boot Camp: 

Bring questions and ideas and come prepared to work . . . and learn!

It is worthwhile, even for someone who has been using Blackboard for years. Things change, new features now exist, and it was so helpful to be updated. I would advise that you have your own Blackboard site up so you can use the knowledge gained immediately in your ‘real life’ course. I found that to be especially helpful.

I would expect everyone who uses Blackboard to take advantage of the Boot Camp.

I would advise faculty to take the workshop and bring in all your class material. That gives an excellent opportunity to take advantage of the help in order to increase the educational effectiveness of the tool.

I tell everyone how wonderful Boot Camps are! I recommend completing a list of "what I want to know" BEFORE the course begins. Have a course ready to apply the information . . . I find by working in a real course I am more apt to reuse the new concept. It also is one step taken to enrich my teaching/grading.

Take it . . . even if you think you know Blackboard, you may learn new tricks you were not familiar with before!

I'd definitely recommend it and I'd tell participants to come into the class with personal curiosity and shortfalls they've faced in their classes in Blackboard. This way they can get the answers they seek and – as a bonus – possibly learn about things they never even suspected existed.

I would highly suggest that any instructor would be wise to take Boot Camp. It opened my eyes as to how much more can be done beyond the basic use of Blackboard. From past experience, it is my opinion the students enjoy using Bb. The more we can make use of it, the more our students will benefit from it.
