Blockbuster film to Music Composer wins premiere at IIFA Toronto a MARTY Award Renu Mehta Mississauga

anadian composer, Vikas Kohli of FatLabs, won the MARTY Award from the Mississauga Arts Council earlier this week, making it his third award in the past two months. Receiving the award his work as a film composer and music producer on April 13, Kohli says he owes the award to a lot of people “I owe this award to every film director and recording artist who trusted me to create music for their project,” commented Kohli during his acceptance speech at the gala event held at the Living Arts Centre. “I am grateful for this award considering there were 21 talented artists in his MARTYS Performing Arts category.” Kohli became the first composer to receive the prestigious Voice Achievers Award in Entertainment on April 1 followed by the Trailblazer Award from the ReelWorld Film Festival on April 10. “This marriage of music and film has led me to produce an original live fusion music concert for the upcoming IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) Awards coming to the

n a blockbuster start to the Videocon D2H IIFA Weekend, Double Dhamaal, presented by Infiniti will open as the IIFA World Premiere film on Thursday, June 23 in Toronto. The weekend will conclude with the Floriana International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards where veteran actor, Dharmendra will perform alongside his sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol. Actress Priyanka Chopra will also perform at Rogers Centre for the IIFA celebrations hosted and supported by the Ontario Government. The film, a sequel to the 2007 hit Dhamaal, stars Sanjay Dutt, Ritesh Deshmukh, Kangna Ranaut, Mallika Sherawat, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaaferi and Ashish Chaudhary. The comedy is produced by Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria in association with Reliance Entertainment.

“IIFA is the most respected Awards and the glamorous presentation ceremony is something I look forward to every year. This year will be particularly special for me, as I will be performing with my sons for the first time on a live stage. We hope our fans in Canada enjoy it,” says veteran actor Dharmendra. Celebrations for the IIFA weekend from June 23 to 25 will be held in cities across the Greater Toronto area including Toronto, Markham, Mississauga and Brampton. “The IIFA stage is an exhilarating platform for any performer and Toronto is going to be unbelievable with over 12000 screaming fans in attendance. It is a great opportunity for me personally to represent Indian Cinema on such a large and international scale. I’m sure that this year’s IIFA is going to be a phenomenal success as it ventures into North America,” says Chopra, one of Bollywood’s most famous names.
