Red Letters: A.S.K. Andy Veith May 14, 2017 A.S.K. Matthew 7:7-12 1. Ask • John 15:7-8 - If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. • We are instructed to ask of God like a traveler asking for directions; to pray is to inquire of God! 2. Seek • Jeremiah 29:12-13 - Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 3. Knock
To Go 1. Ask - Take some time this week alone with God. Invite Him to show you and remove from you your will in the matter, and then persistently ask Him to reveal His will to you. Nothing more and nothing less. 2. Seek - Rather than showing yourself to God through your requests (don’t worry, He already knows what you need), invite Him to show Himself to you. 3. Knock – Choose a matter of prayer this week. Every hour, hit the pause button of life and persistently submit your request to God.

Quick Review We are continuing in our Red Letter series this week which is part of Jesus’ longest recorded sermon in the New Testament. We encourage you to read Matthew 5-7 in its entirety at least once each week during the series. In your time with the Lord and with your Growth Group, ask and answer these questions to help guide you in responding to Jesus’ message from this section of Matthew 5-7. Looking back at your outline or notes, what stood out to you most from the message on Sunday? Diving into the passage alone or together CONTEXT: How does the particular section in Matthew 5-7 connect with what immediately precedes or follows it? OBSERVATION: What is the main topic of this section? Is there a particular word picture that Jesus uses, and why do you think he uses it? MEANING: What does this section reveal about who Jesus is, and what he came into the world to do? What is he trying to say, in your own words? APPLICATION: What does the passage teach you about being a disciple of Jesus? In what way do you need to change as a result of what you learned from this passage? Our questions follow the C.O.M.A. format found in One-to-One Bible Reading, by David Helm.
