February 22: Hardcoded Tie Count: We developed code that will take in a hardcoded
tie count in the app and having an image move horizontally across the screen the same number of pixels. ● February 22: Source Code Combination Plan: Currently, we are using two different projects for testing. (1) Main_Activity controlling trains and connections. (2) Image_View showing image movement. We have been testing the code separately and are now to the point where the codes need to be combined so that we can have user controls and train movement all in the same application. Our plan on combining the code is as follows: ○ In Main_Activity, create an object of the Image_View class ○ Have 10 instances of the Image_View class for 10 different trains ○ Each train will have the properties needed to place the trains on a track image and move the trains across the proper axes ○ Have to tabs ■ Tab 1 will combine the Main_Activity and the Image_View classes to give user control and visibility ■ Tab 2 will consist only of Main_Activity so that it will be easier for us to edit and debug the train controls without affecting the Image_View as well as giving the user the option to input more advanced commands ● February 23: Move 10 Trains in the Image_View Class: In the Image_View class, OnTrack can now add ten trains and have them individually move horizontally a hardcoded number of pixels. February 25: Tie Counting: OnTrack Hardware Lead, Scott, met with Euros Davis to discuss the tie counting hardware. The problem statement is as follows: When tracking the trains on the track, we will need to have known location that be directly related to pixels on our app. We will be using barcodes for the known locations. The barcodes will be directly under the track and will be read by the sensor the same way the sensor counts the ties on the track. Scott has reached out to Euros Davis for advice on filtering out a noisy signal received by the sensors due to a multicolored cork being used under our track layout.

Scott and Euros ran several tests in an attempt to filter out the noise from the sensor, but none of the tests solved the problem. A few things considered during the testing is as follows: 1. Maybe there is so much noise because the multicolored cork is made up of dark colors? ○ No, we tested the tie counting sensor on a solid dark brown surface and the reading worked properly. The problem is not that the cork under the track is too dark, it’s that the cork is multicolored. 2. The frequency from reading the cork is extremely low. Scott and Euros did multiple frequency tests but all resulted in the signal from the cork still producing too much noise. February 25: Solution to Multicolored Cork Noisy Signal: After discussing the matter with one of our sponsors, Dr. Kulick, we will more than likely be painting the cork a solid color. February 26: Combining Classes: All of the code is now interactive between the original Main_Activity and Image_View classes. The app now has two tab views. One for the viewer to see train movement and have general commands and the other for sending more specific hard coded commands. February 27: Tie Counting: We have been in contact with one of our sponsors, Dr. Kulick, about our testing results from the tie counting over the current multicolored cork. He accepted our proof through testing that the sensor data is too noisy with the multicolored cork, and he has decided to paint the cork a different (solid) color. Now that we are uptodate with Dr. Kulick, we continued with the hardware development for the IMU and Sensor data. February 27: Prototype App Layout: The team sat down and agreed upon a layout for Sponsored by: Dr. Jeff Kulick and Dr. David Coe Instructor: Dr. Earl Wells

our app. The layout may change as the project continues.
Future Work (FEB 28 – MAR 6) ● Continue firmware update of IMU and Sensors ● Continue implementation of prototype app layout ● Work more on using the IMU and Sensor data to move images accordingly on the app
Problems to Date ● No problems to date
