CARPENTER FOUNDATION PROGRAM Credential Issued: ITA Certificate of Completion (Carpenter Foundation Program) Occupational Description: The Foundation Program consists of Level 1 technical training in addition to practical and essential skills related to the Carpenter apprentice program. “Carpenter” means a person who performs all work in connection with the assembly and erection of falsework and forms for concrete, wood and metal frame construction, and installs interior and exterior finishing metals for residential, commercial, and industrial projects, while conforming to plans and specifications and local building codes. Other trade skills include layout, rigging/signaling, cutting/welding and the erection and dismantling of scaffolding. Program Duration & Structure: The in-school is designed to meet the competency standards, profile and essential skills defined by the industry, and will generally take 24 weeks to complete. *The program is delivered by an ITA approved training provider. It can also be met through approved alternative training models (e.g. distance education, part-time) where these options are available. To participate in a Foundation Program, individuals must register directly with the training provider offering the program. Program Completion Requirements: ƒ ƒ

Completion of specified technical training content, practical and theory assessments Level 1 written examination.

Program Challenge Requirements: No challenge available Program Pre-requisites: ƒ Recommended education: Grade 10 or equivalent including English 10, Mathematics 10, and Science 10. Preferred: Grade 12 Assessment Methods: ƒ In-school assessments (practical and written examination) ƒ Final Assessment (Level 1 written examination) Credit Towards Apprenticeship: Individuals who complete the Carpenter Foundation program will receive Level 1 technical training credit and 450 workbased hours credit toward completion of the Carpenter Level 1 apprenticeship program.
