Instagram Instagram is a photo and video sharing app where kids use it to capture special moments or carry on conversations in a fun way. You can take a picture or up to 15 seconds of a video from within the app or import photos from your phone. You then can add a caption and chose to send it to your Instagram, or other social media followers. It runs on the Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, as well as Android phones and tablets. -Go to the Apps section of your phone and do a search for Instagram. Once it appears select and load it, then select sign up

   

Instagram photos are open to the public by default and users can browse photos posted by others and those who they follow Users need a username and many kids use their real first and last name There is an optional phone number section open to the public during the initial sign-up Users can add “followers” and once accepted they have access to first and last name as well as phone number

Tips for Parents Privacy Settings  Ensure that photo sharing is set to private by going to “settings” and scrolling down to the setting labeled “photos are private.” Turn this setting ON.  Choose a secure password- don’t use common words, birthday’s or cities  Add a combination of numbers and symbols to passwords Location Settings  Photo map is a feature that creates a map of where each photo was taken. To ensure privacy, turn the “add to map” setting OFF. Accepting Followers  If your child does not know who the person is requesting to follow them, they shouldn’t accept them as a follower Continue to talk to your child about what they are posting and what they are allowed to post
