2.2. A motivating example. While fundamental Hamiltonians are independent of time, in a number of common cases, we can form approximate Hamiltonians that are time dependent. One such example is that of Coulomb excitations of an atom, as covered in §18.3 of the text [1], and shown in figure (1).
