Faculty will respond to emails within 24-48 hours during the week. Telephone appointments are available by appointment through email. Exceptions will be posted in the Announcements. For any pressing matter, faculty can be reached at the abovelisted number from 10 a.m. P.T. to 6 p.m. P.T. Course Description This clinical application course offers an extended clinical experience mentored and precepted by a certified Clinical Nurse Leader and/or an experienced Staff nurse in a health care facility and/or community setting providing nursing care. This integration experience reflects the current health care delivery system and provides the student with the opportunity to practice in a chosen health care environment(s). The focus is on taking primary responsibility for the design, coordination, and management of health care appropriate to the client/patient population. Communication, collaboration, negotiation, delegation, coordination and evaluation of interdisciplinary work skills will be integrated within the practice setting. The students design, implement, and evaluate a CNL project that reflects the skills essential to the application, design and evaluation of an outcomebased practice model. Course pre-requisites: N613, N623, N615, N628 Course co-requisites: N651 Course Objectives The completion of this clinical experience should provide the graduate with the knowledge and skills to: 1. Assume a leadership role, in collaboration with inter-professional team members, to design, coordinate and evaluate patient-centered care. 2. Apply concepts of improvement science, systems theory, and lateral integration to improvement opportunities. 3. Implement quality improvement strategies based on current evidence, microsystem analyses, and fiscal responsibility. 4. Coordinate the health care of patients across microsystems. 5. Participate in ongoing evaluation, implementation and integration of health care technologies. 1

Time Commitment As a student in this course, you need to allocate sufficient time to access course materials, read assigned readings, participate in online activities, and complete all assignments. For this clinical role course, you are to document 220 hours of practice in the CNL role thus completing the required 400 hours of the CNL program. The updated and complete Clinical Hours Documentation form is to be submitted in the e-portfolio. Assignments All assignments are required for completion of the course. The CNL Prospectus/Project and Final Paper: A prospectus is a document describing the major features of a proposed project in enough detail so that prospective investors, participants, or team members may evaluate it, and, is the initial portion of the final paper. The project is the set of activities that occurred in practice to meet the specific aim of the prospectus. The Final Paper is an APA formatted scholarly paper that represents the project and its implementation The CNL Prospectus/Project and Final Paper address issues of safety, quality and financial responsibility in the microsystem. The Poster Presentation: The poster presentation is a professional presentation related to the CNL poster that is delivered in the virtual environment or on campus at USF if desired. The USF option is a good item to enter on your resume as a professional activity, and is encouraged but not required. Clinical Hours Requirement Students must complete and document a total of 400 hours of CNL Role Practice to sit for the AACN CNL Certification Examination. Hours accrued in other CNL role courses in other semesters will be credited towards the total 400 hours. A maximum total of 180 hours may be credited towards the total sum of 400 required hours. This means a minimum of 220 clinical internship hours must be documented and completed during this 2

semester. A Memorandum of Understanding must be obtained prior to starting CNL role hours. End of Program Competencies Documentation: Students submit one End of Program Competency Documentation form that includes the cumulative practicum activities for N615, N623, N628, and N653. E-portfolio: The e-portfolio is the completed document with program essential elements. Practicum Evaluation: You are to complete five forms directly related to the N653 practicum. The completed and signed Preceptor Evaluation of CNL Internship form is due in Module 7 and Module 12. Assignments

Grading Scale To successfully pass this course, students must complete all assignments and achieve 800 points to receive a satisfactory (s). All items in the table above are required to pass the course. Course Policies Discussion Board Criteria Students should submit one post in response to the initial prompt, then at least two other posts in response to classmates.
