Purpose y To develop stage 3 of the IPE strand in the curricula of the

nine disciplines involved in IPE since its full implementation in Sept. 2007

Background y Interprofessional education (IPE) was fully implemented at

Keele University across 9 health and social care disciplines in Sept. 2007 y Clinical Psychology, Health Sciences, Medicine, Midwifery,

Nursing, Operating Department Practice, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Social Work were the disciplines involved

Background cont’d y IPE strands 1 and 2 are university based and are implemented

in years 1 and 2 respectively y Students are allocated to multiprofessional groups (x 34) y PBL scenarios are used to facilitate students' understanding of each professional role, responsibilities and interprofessional collaboration y Assessment is via poster presentations and Root Cause Analysis reports

Development of IPE 3 y ILO’s already in place provided framework for development y Work / practice based IPE y Spontaneously occurring professional groups y Need for multi-source feedback ( a requirement of the

majority of disciplines) y Student responsibility and ownership increased

Process y Consultation with all disciplines y Majority use portfolios as a vehicle for learning and

assessment y Majority seek multi-source feedback on student performance y Therefore..............

Process cont’d y A generic, IPE 3 outcome focused trigger sheet and

guidance notes were designed

y These were included in students’ practice based assessment

documents

Launch y Presented to IPE Sub-committee for approval y Presented to staff within each School y Launched with all students in Sept. 2009 y Preparation of work based mentors / assessors is the

responsibility of IPE co-ordinators in each School y Assessment via portfolio entries, reflection, multi-source feedback and Personal Tutor interviews ( all of which were integral to each curriculum)

Evaluation y Existing evaluation tool (used for IPE 1 and IPE 2) modified

to accommodate changes in IPE 3 y Disseminated to students and Personal Tutors in Sept. 2010 y Returned to IPE 3 co-ordinators who will collate data
