Island Sushi and Grill Receives Achievement of Excellence Award at the 2016 American Culinary Federation National Convention St. Augustine, Fla., August 30, 2016—The American Culinary Federation (ACF), the nation’s premier organization of professional chefs, honored Island Sushi and Grill, Las Vegas, with an Achievement of Excellence Award at Cook. Craft. Create. Convention & Show held in Phoenix, July 15-19. Island Sushi and Grill was one of 14 operations to receive the award from ACF national president Thomas Macrina, CEC, CCA, AAC. The award recognizes foodservice establishments that exemplify a commitment to excellence and a passion for the culinary arts. Criteria for the award include nomination by an ACF chapter, member or individual in the foodservice profession; consistent dedication to excellence in foodservice; and involvement in the community. Island Sushi and Grill brings Hawaii to the mainland, serving traditional sushi with a Hawaiian flare and Hawaiian grilled entrees. Born and raised on the islands of Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii, the owners want to give back to the people of Hawaii, as well as bring the island culture to Las Vegas. The restaurant encompasses two cuisines, two concepts and two separate dining facilities. Island Sushi, open since 2007, serves sushi and Japanese cuisine. In 2008, the company added a grill component, which serves plate lunches and pupus (appetizers). Both offer dine-in, take-out and catering services. "It is truly an honor to receive the Achievement of Excellence Award,” said Danial Fong, sales and marketing manager, Island Sushi and Grill. “Every day, we do our best to provide a wonderful dining experience for our guests and create dishes that are comfortable yet delicious. Island Sushi and Grill will continue to thrive under Chef Terence Fong's leadership and ingenuity." More than 850 chefs, cooks, students and foodservice professionals attended Cook. Craft. Create. Convention & Show, hosted by the ACF Chef’s Association of Arizona, Inc. The event provided attendees with numerous opportunities to advance their professional development and enhance their culinary skills through informative workshops and seminars, cutting-edge demonstrations, a trade show featuring nearly 100 exhibitors, a career fair, national competitions and ACF’s annual national awards.
