SCHOOL NEWS CHRISTMAS CHEER TO YOU ALL Wow! The end of the school year is upon us and what a great year it’s been! It’s at this time, with reports about to fly out the door and prize giving and awards being presented, that we reflect on what we’ve all achieved and how we got there. One thing we know for certain is that without you behind us supporting our every effort and lending hands in so many ways we could not achieve the success that we have. Our school community seems to grow from strength to strength and we feel blessed to be part of it. So a massive thank you, thank you, thank you from all the Winch Team for all the support and behind the scenes work you’ve put in, at home with your children encouraging their learning and here at school as parent helpers. A special thanks to our stalwart PTA crew who have worked hard to add extra money to our school coffers through their wacky and wonderful fundraising schemes. Also we are grateful to our switched on Board of Trustees for their professional dealings with governance business and ensuring the smooth running of the school. With such an awesome community behind us, we can only achieve more success and continue to build on our solid and positive reputation. Wishing you, your families and whanau an enjoyable, social Christmas and summer break. Keep yourselves safe and well and we’ll do it all again next year! Mere Kirihimete Tre
PRINCIPAL’S AWARDS: Goes to Paddy Gutsell - for showing kindness and caring ways when he helped a classmate out, keeping her safe and modelling to other children how to be a WInch Wise kid. Thanks Paddy
You are a true Winch Wise Kid. Kai Pai.
BOT Kia ora koutou, The upcoming meeting will be my last on the Winchester Rural School Board of Trustees. I have been on the Board for the past 4 ½ years and have been the Chairman for the past 18 months. I can honestly say that being on the Board of Trustees has been a very rewarding experience. As I look back on my time on the Board we have been through a lot as a school community - an enrolment zone, Principal's appointment and many building projects such as the pool, Matai room and the upcoming library upgrade, and amongst all of that there is the teaching and learning that is going on. It is definitely an experience that I am pleased I had the opportunity to be a part of.
I urge you to consider standing for the Board of Trustees as it
really does offer you the opportunity to consider the governance of the school. I am standing down from the Board as I will no longer have children at Winchester Rural School in 2018. Let me assure you that Winchester Rural School is lucky enough to have a team of fantastic teachers and support staff who are capably led by our Principal Tre. The children of Winchester Rural are provided with so many opportunities to put their best foot forward be it academically, sporting or culturally. I leave knowing that Winchester Rural is in good heart - I look around and can see that we are definitely reaping the harvest by creating learners who Aim High, are Resilient, are Independent, Inquisitive and Respectful. So be very proud of your child/ren. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for making Winchester Rural the wonderful school and community that it is - without each and every one of you it would be difficult to achieve all that we do in the school. I hope you all have a wonderful break and I look forward to hearing all the wonderful achievements that the students of Winchester Rural will make in the future. RESILIENCE: What resilience means to the children in Rimu To me resilience means to keep trying again and again to shoot a hoop with my netball team’s support. By Nikita.
To me resilience means to keep on going and never give up like playing softball when you miss the ball. Keep on trying. By Cameron.
