Where every student is KNOWN, VALUED and CHALLENGED to Succeed.

Principal’s Post – High School Parents. I am looking forward to the start of the school year. It is hard to believe that we are already into August. Take every opportunity to enjoy the remainder of the summer. Feel free to stop by the office to pick up last years’ report cards, but remember all fines must be paid before report cards are released. You can also pick up schedules for the new school year at Open House on August 30th. HFHS will now be in the fifth year of our iPad initiative. New this year, students in grades 9-12 will receive a laptop. We have learned a lot in the first four years of the students having iPads. In August, parents and families will be able to stop in the High School office to pay for and pick up their iPads or laptops. The dates these will be on our website in early August. Like last year, the High School will be hosting an open house. The open house will be from 3:00pm - 5:00pm on Wednesday, August 30th. This is an excellent opportunity for students and parents to meet their teachers, and get into the building to try out their lockers. I also want to update you on some of my goals that I have for the high school this school year. They are:      

Creating our new 7th Grade Academy to be as successful as our 9th Grade Academy. Making sure new staff, who will be in new positions, are supported and know both the HS and District Procedures. Plan for the teachers to get as much training and support so they are ready for the continued push of using technology to help meet the MN State Standards. Support the new transition to eduClimber - our new data warehouse. Use skills learned at restorative justice training to make improvements into the high school procedures. Continue to make literacy have a significant role in all classrooms - not just in the English department.

Please check our school website or contact the High School office for questions about when Fall Sports begin and what the schedules for each sport look like. Remember all 7th graders need to have their immunizations up to date before school begins and all athletes in grades 7 and 10 need to have an updated sports physical on file to be eligible to play sports.

Parents, would you like immediate information as it happens from the HS Principal? If so, please follow me by using “Remind 101.” To follow me, send a text Hinckley – Finlayson High School Highlights to the number 81010. In the subject write: @hfhsparent.

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION Hinckley Elementary August 9, 2017 9:00 am – 11:00 am ∞ Finlayson Elementary August 24, 2017 9:00 am – 11:00 am

As the elementary principal, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another momentous year. We are excited to have students back in our hallways and classrooms filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our mission for every student to be known, valued and challenged to succeed. Additionally, we strive to help every child feel connected and be part of our Hinckley-Finlayson family. At the Hinckley and Finlayson Elementary schools, we have GREAT teachers who spend hours planning and creating classroom activities to engage our students in learning. Our teachers utilize research-based best practices and analyze academic data to determine current skill levels and to set goals for growth and improvement. We believe all students should leave our elementary schools prepared for the demands of high school, post-secondary education, meaningful careers and effective citizenship. It is truly a privilege to be a part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth. Please feel free to contact me at 320.384.6443 or at [email protected]. Once again, welcome back! Let’s make it another great year at Hinckley-Finlayson Public Schools. Sincerely,
