Director, Global Health and Safety ESCO Corporation - Portland, Oregon Area

Job Description ESCO seeks to hire a qualified and experienced safety professional in a newly created position; Director, Global Health and Safety. Reporting to the VP Foundry Operations this person will be charged with providing safety leadership and management globally across all functions and departments within the Engineered Products Group (EPG). Working in collaboration with select stakeholders and using internationally recognized safety management system standards this person will develop, deploy and continuously improve the EPG Safety Management System through the creation of H&S standards, procedures and guidelines using industry best practice. The Safety Management System will be integrated within ESCO’s QVS system and incorporate existing H&S processes such as the Observation Based Safety program.

In addition, this person will: • • • • •

Drive safety as a core value through all functions and levels of the organization. Implement measures to review and evaluate the global effectiveness of the EPG Safety Management System. Work in partnership with all EPG sites to achieve safety and health objectives. Provide leadership, guidance and direction in the areas of industrial safety, occupational health, regulatory support and technical consulting services as needed. Network with industry peers.

Desired Skills & Experience · Education: •

Masters degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health or equivalent

· Experience: •

Minimum of 15 years professional experience including 5 years in a safety leadership position directing or managing a multi-faceted health & safety program in a publically owned global company



Has worked in a global company within the manufacturing, primary metal producer or mining sectors whose turnover exceeded $1B.

Must have previously reported to a senior level of the organization Substantive experience developing H&S Programs internationally Thorough knowledge of H&S related Government regulations and nationally recognized standards in at least one of the following countries USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.

· Certifications/Licenses: • •

Professional Certification in one or more of the EH&S disciplines i.e. CIH, CSP, CBSP, CHP, CHMM or equivalent based on previous geographic region NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health (IGC) would be a distinct advantage

· Other required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • • • • • • • • •

Working knowledge and experience with “Observation Based Safety ” and / or "Behavior Based Safety” Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Languages: Apart from English it would be desirable for the candidate to be proficient in a second language including either Spanish, Portuguese, French, Cantonese or Mandarin The candidate must be conversant with mining and construction customer safety requirements and programs Working knowledge of OHSAS 18001 is a definite requirement Proven record of fostering relationships with customers, suppliers and distributors Ability to personally develop corporate organizational H&S standards and procedures and differentiate between standards, procedures and guidelines. Proven external relationships and networks within the global safety community Project management experience and skills
