This spring, 10th, 11th, & 12th grade students have the opportunity to participate in the Hillcrest High School Job Shadowing Day on Friday, April 27, 2018.

What is Job Shadowing? Job Shadowing is an exciting and educational opportunity for students to learn first hand about the world of work. By “shadowing” a workplace mentor, students can participate, observe, listen and ask questions about a specific job. The job shadowing experience supports career exploration, helps students define their career interests, and provides experiences that help in selecting future high school courses and possible college majors.

In order for student to participate in Job Shadowing Day on April 27th, the following steps will need to be followed: 1. Read and complete each page of the Job Shadowing packet. (Additional copies of the forms are available in the school counseling office located on the information table near the door) 2. The student and/or parent finds a local business or employee that matches the student’s career interest area. Students may not shadow at Hillcrest & it is the student’s responsibility to find placement for shadowing. 3. Contact the business or employee to explain Job Shadowing Day and arrange for the student to visit on 4/27/17 4. Parent, Student, and Job Shadow Site Supervisor MUST fully complete the Job Shadowing Observation Verification of Attendance Form AND it must be turned in on April 30, 2018 to the Hillcrest High School Attendance Office in order for the student to have an excused absence. Failure to turn in the completed form will result in an unexcused absence.  There is no time restriction on the amount of time needed to be spent at the Job Shadow site. The visit can be for as long as necessary for the student to get a clear understanding of the training, responsibilities, and expectations of the job and to complete the required paperwork from the Job Shadowing Packet.  A parent/guardian’s workplace is acceptable as long as the student has an interest in the business or job. A business may be willing to accept small groups of students. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian/student. Students must successfully complete the requirements outlined in the Job Shadowing packet to receive attendance credit for April 27, 2018.

Checklist for Job Shadowing Before the Job Shadowing Experience: ______ Make arrangements for your visit ______ On the day of your visit, take the Job Shadowing Observation Verification of Attendance Form and have it completed by your site supervisor (this form MUST be turned in to attendance on 4/30/2018 in order for your Job Shadowing to be approved) ______ Dress neatly and professionally in clean and appropriate clothes. Be well groomed. During the Job Shadowing Experience _____ Be on time _____ Listen and follow any instructions carefully. _____ Ask thoughtful questions that are related to the workplace. _____ Observe and take notes. _____ Complete the Job Shadowing Observation Verification of Attendance form while

shadowing. This form must be turned in to the Attendance Office Monday April 30, 2018. After the Job Shadowing Experience: _____ Write a thank-you note for your business contact within three days of your return. _____ Submit the Job Shadowing Observation Verification of Attendance form by Monday April 30, 2018 in order for your absence to be EXCUSED. The following forms MUST BE RETURNED to the attendance office of Hillcrest High School by the STUDENT OR PARENT in order for your time out of school for Job Shadowing Day to be EXCUSED.
