197 TYPHOON SQN. ROYAL CANADIAN AIR CADETS The Organization The Air Cadets were formed in 1941 to train wartime pilots. After the war it became a youth organization to develop good citizens and leaders, to promote physical fitness and promote an interest in flying. The Royal Canadian Air Cadet organization is one of the best kept secrets for youth today. Cadets have an opportunity to learn practical leadership skills, self-discipline, esprit de corps and instructional techniques not available through any other youth organization. These skills have proven to help cadets in their future careers in life by giving them the confidence to approach and solve any problems they might face. There is no obligation to join the Canadian Forces.
Field Training Exercises Our outdoor weekend exercises give cadets a chance to display their new found leadership skills, or a chance to improve on those they already have. Cadets are given the opportunity to learn survival and teamwork principles.
Flying and Gliding All cadets interested in becoming pilots are offered ground school training which can lead to a Glider and/or Private Pilot Licence scholarship application.
Activities Cadets may participate in: camp outs, Flag Party, Drill Team, Flying, Gliding, Parades, Orienteering, Snow Shoeing, Winter Survival, Volleyball, Confidence Course, Tours, Abseiling, Marching Band, Fitness Awards, Sports Teams, Tug-O-War, Swimming, Wilderness Survival and much, much more!
Cost With the exception of our March Break Trip (which is subsidized) all training, uniforms, events and experiences are free to all enrolled members of 197 TYPHOON Squadron
Not Yet 12? If your children are not yet 12, the Acton Legion also hosts the Navy League for children ages 9-12. This is also a free program and meets at the same location as we do on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm.
