BARRIERS

This week marks the end of a huge Yatra across India (over 15,000 kilometres!) where young people have been marching to ask their decision makers to protect children from trafficking. Thousands of young people like you are joining them by creating their own journeys towards a world where every child is free, safe and educated. Using the factsheet and any other information you can find online, have a think about what your journey’s end goal is. It could be a community goal (e.g. all children in my community are in school), a national goal It could be a community goal (e.g. my community is child-labour free), a national goal (e.g. my country welcomes child refugees) or a global goal (e.g. education for all).

STEP 1: Firstly, think about the types of barriers you might face when trying to reach your goal. What kinds of things would be a challenge to overcome? Are there different challenges for girls? Are there different challenges for children with disabilities or for the world’s poorest children? For example, if your goal is Education for all, then a potential barrier could be child marriage is stopping girls going to school. Cut out a barrier symbol and stick it onto your journey, writing a description of the barrier underneath.

STEP 2: Now that you have thought about the barriers you might face on this journey, try to think of ways these problems could be solved. For example if you've identified a barrier to the goal of my community is child labour free as family poverty, a bridge could be free school meals for children who go to school." Cut out a bridge and stick it onto your journey, adding a description of the solution you’ve come up with above it. When you’re finished you can make the map as colourful and decorative as you’d like!
