2016 Scientific Ballooning Technologies Workshop Jun-Ichi Morino (National Astronomical Observatory of Japan) Title Jun-Ichi Morino (National Astronomical Observatory of Japan) Abstract We developed a status monitoring system for a ground-based large telescope. The telescope is located at the summit and is remote from the observatory office located at sea level. The system is not only used at the summit to summarize the hardware conditions of more than thousands of bits or digit number from local control units, but also used as a kind of telemetry system --- for the telescope-supporting staff at office in the daytime or at home in the nighttime. The user level software is written in python script interpreter language with only easy syntax. It is highly re-configurable while operation and timely to meet the various condition change of hardware trouble issues. One of the fundamental programs is designed to have character-based interface of 80x25 char with menu and refreshing update by every 1 second. It does not require a large band width for the communication, relatively. I will show a schematic design of the system used more than twelve years at 8-m optical and infrared telescope, Subaru at Mauna Kea in Hawaii, to discuss the possibility of developing software for timely diagnose with such design for balloon-borne telescope equipped with various control units with small communication band width or any other remote telescope.
