Volunteers Needed Reading POWR, a volunteer group, working under Catholic Charities, is seeking several volunteers to assist our Reading, Ethiopian family in two areas. The first position is to manage the refilling of prescriptions which would include sending reminders to the family to pick-up medications at the CVS pharmacy. The opportunity does not require medical experience – just a detailed, patient, and persistent attitude. Secondly, volunteers are needed to provide English as a Second Language (ESL) tutoring one or more hours a week during the summer to one of our Ethiopian friends. Perhaps you are a retired ESL teacher or know someone who is an ESL teacher. Please pass on the information. For more information, please email
[email protected] or call Hilary Trismen at 978-618-3428 or Susanne Sullivan at 781-942-0479. Thank you.
The Catholic Appeal provides critical funding to hundreds of pastoral, charitable, and educational programs that impact tens of thousands throughout our Archdiocese. Thank you for responding to Cardinal Seán’s call to witness more clearly the depths of God’s love for each one of us through this important effort. We pray for the special intentions of all those who have supported 2018 Catholic Appeal through prayers, volunteering, and financial support. May their sacrifices strengthen them in the spirit and joy of Christ’s love.

11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
When people are appreciative of the opportunities they receive which they can’t repay, they promise to share their good fortune with others by ‘paying it forward.’ It’s a way of sharing with someone else the gift they have received so it will also help someone else. It becomes a gift that keeps on giving. As much as Jesus loved the disciples, the gift of faith that He entrusts to them is not meant for them alone; rather, it is to be shared and proclaimed so that God’s love and power will renew the face of the earth. The sacrifice of Jesus is freely given to all those who need salvation. Through the words and deeds of His followers, Jesus’ gift of life and grace is offered to everyone. We have been given so much by God and by those who have gone before us. These gifts all come from the heart and so they must be passed on from the heart as well. When we love others and share with them what we have received, we indeed pay faith forward, making God’s Kingdom a little more visible and accessible for those who need Him most.
~James Gaffney, St. George Publishing
From our Youth Minister Brad Agostinelli ..
I wanted to let all of you at St. Athanasius staff know that you're welcome to join Molly and I for our wedding Mass on Saturday, 7/7 at 130pm at St. Patrick's Church in Watertown. It's meant a lot to me to be part of the St. Athanasius and Reading community over the past several years and I wanted to make sure you all know you're welcome to celebrate with us at Mass. Thank you for all you've done to support me in my service of God and work with the teens in Reading through St. Athanasius.
Congratulations to Brad & Molly
June 17 ~ Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time This parable about the mustard seed is a reminder to us about our role in the work of evangelization. “The smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants.” Many shy away from sharing their faith with others. But if each one of us can muster the courage to shares our faith with one person, who shares with one person, who shares… It is this kind of evangelization that will build the Kingdom of God: stories of God working in our lives, of prayers asked for and answered, of feeling the presence of Jesus. Share the “mustard seed” of your faith and watch to see how it will grow! 4
