June 6, 2014 Dear Leaders, We receive requests from time-to-time for zip lines, high adventure courses, archery, rifle shooting, BB gun shooting, paint guns and such activities to be allowed and/or provided at camp. The recreational property guidelines (as confirmed by our Camp O&M Regional Manager at Church headquarters) are to not incorporate new activities into the camp program that have inherent risks such as shooting ranges (the type of weapon being shot is not specified), as well as the other activities listed above. We have decided as priesthood leaders and committee members responsible for the camp to not add any shooting ranges or archery ranges to the camp program. Stakes that choose to engage in these activities on their own off the property are instructed by the Church to meet standards set by industry associations such as the NRA Shooting Range Services. Please plan these activities on another week that you are not at camp and make sure that you seek proper approval from your ward and stake leadership prior to planning these activities. When planning activities for camp, please consider what the purpose of Young Women’s camp is, and if your activity is central to that purpose.
