MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD 

 

In loving memory of Karen Clancy    December 27, 1947 - September 19, 2012        The 13th century Sufi poet, Rumi, said, “Let the beauty we love be what we do.” The beauty  that Karen loved with her heart and soul was teaching. It is what she had successfully done for 36  years with devotion, dedication, compassion, hearty laughs, and hearty tears. Karen has made a  profound difference in the lives of thousands of young people, and has affected hundreds of her  colleagues with her commitment to education, her humbleness, and her contagious vibrancy and  warmth. She has provided many of us with pure love, 100% support, optimism, and boundless faith.  She does all with grace and integrity. We are indebted to her for sharing her wisdom and experience,  and for sharing the enormous capacity by which she loves. We are blessed to have had her as our  colleague, teacher, and even more so as a genuine friend.   

    This memorial scholarship is open to all West Springfield High School graduating seniors  who are planning a creative career in the fine arts.    We ask that you submit a one-page essay on the importance of art education in the public  schools -or- describe a teacher who has inspired you.    SENIOR APPLICANTS:    A completed application along with the following items should be submitted to the high  school guidance office by April 15th.    ~ High school transcript including class rank  ~ Proof of college offer and acceptance  ~ One page essay (12 point font, double spaced)  ~ Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or coach    The funding for this scholarship is made possible by fundraising activities performed by the  family and friends of Karen Clancy, and the students of West Springfield High School.
