RESEARCH EXPERIENCE SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY Research Volunteer February 2012 – Present Working on transcobalamin receptor (CD320) knockout mice to determine the effect of this gene knockout on the transport of cobalamin during embryonic development and on the development of the brain and spinal cord in the presence of low cobalamin levels. Utilized both biochemical assays and immunohistochemical techniques. Worked on the animal model (rat) developed to study the mechanisms of action of antibodies against folate receptor on behavior and cognitive development. Studied with the open field test, novel object test and avoidance testing for spatial memory formation. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd., Hyderabad, India Technical Trainee (Junior Scientist Grade) July 2007 – May 2008 Developed Analytical methods for QC assays of Recombinant proteins Developed techniques for the Biochemical and Biophysical Characterization of Recombinant proteins Provided analytical support for Upstream and Downstream Process Development Utilized techniques/assays like HPLCs (Size Exclusion, Reverse Phase, Ion Exchange, Hydrophobic Interaction, Protein A), SDS-PAGEs, Isoelectric Focusing, Western Blotting, ESI-Mass Spectrometry, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Capillary Electrophoresis, ELISA, Peptide Mapping, Protein Glycosylation Analysis, FACE. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE Polytechnic Institute of New York University, Brooklyn, NY Teaching Assistant August 2011 - Present Biostatistics and Chemistry Assist the head teacher in managing a class of 20-50 students. Assist in the development of exam questions, proctor during examinations, evaluate and grade examinations, assignments, papers, record grades. Communicate with students to provide them with extra help if they are having difficulties in class. Biotechnology & the Pharmaceutical Industry Searched for various diseases, meeting the given conditions, which can be given as a topic of assignment to the students to study the complete drug development process involved in the Pharmaceutical Industry. ACADEMIC PROJECTS Process Standardization for Production & Purification of α-amylase enzyme August 2006 – June 2007 Developed the standard procedures for production and primary purification of α-amylase from Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Developed the procedures for the enzyme activity, performed the final purification and characterized the purified enzyme.
