PURPOSE OF THE POSITION       

Provide Kaitiaki coverage to whaanau in the grief process prior to/ during the process at Waikato Hospital after hours. Provide cultural guidance and support to whaanau in the grief process accessing the Kaitiaki after hours Provide cultural advice and guidance to Waikato DHB staff on appropriate cultural process for the tuupapaku and the whaanau. Facilitate whaanau hui for whaanau in the grief process prior to /during Advise and make contact with the appropriate service i.e. coroners/ funeral directors/ DNM’s during that time Support whaanau who need to access the Mortuary after hours and on-call Have access to Morturary Whaanau room for whaanau accessing the Mortuary

INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Authorised to deliver the accountabilities required of the Kaitiaki After hours/ Oncall Mon-Frid including meeting the key performance indicators (KPIs) established annually with the Kaitiaki Team Leader.

Accountabilities Accountable for after -hours Kaitiaki support to whaanau in the grief process prior to/ after Accountable for clear communication between whaanau and the service/ staff Inform the whaanau of the process that will take place and give regular updates to the whaanau during the process. Provide cultural support and guidance to the whaanau/ Waikato DHB staff Sign in/ Out at Te Puna Oranga before going on to the site Keep a true and accurate record of attendance at work from 5-8pm and on -call. Keep in close contact with the Kaitiaki Team Leader Become familiar with the contacts within the bereavement process that are necessary for whaanau to go through the process as quickly as possible Become familiar with the Waikato DHB recording processes. Attend Te Puna Oranga full teams as appropriate

Service Development  Provide ongoing updates to the Kaitiaki Team Leader as identified  Identify areas of improvement to the role to the Kaitiaki Team Leader  Identify and escalate areas of issue identified within the Waikato DHB

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS  

Appropriate qualification or experience in maaori health or maaori practices. Understanding of the Coroners/ Mortuary process

Desirable    

Te Reo Maaori and Tikanga maaori practice Understanding of the Te Ao Maaori Ability to communicate and work within a mainstream system regarding appropriate cultural practises Ability to work to network internally and externally to progress the tuupapaku and return them home to the whaanau as quickly as possible

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

   

Ability to speak Te Reo Maori and able to lead and implement Tikanga Maaori practices Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi and implementation of the principles in daily practise Māori health experience or experience in a relevant environment Influencing the practice of others, motivation individuals and managing cultural issues.

  

Provide quality patient and / or cultural support. Develop networks with sector providers and local Maaori communities Understanding of importance to Maaori patients – Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Wairuatanga.

Desirable  Have developed networks with sector providers and local Maaori communities.  Working in a large, diverse mainstream organisation  Understanding of the Coroners/ Mortuary process

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND WORK FUNCTION / ACTIVITY Work environment:          

Employees generally work in an indoor area. Works predominantly with people and at times will work on the computer. Work function/activity: Sedentary role with some walking. Employees occasionally sit at workstations operating computers and other related equipment. Stretching, twisting, climbing is not a significant component of the job. Lifting is not a significant component of the job. Bending, squatting or crouching is not a significant component of the job. Repetitive arm hand and finger movements are constantly required when carrying out wordprocessing or data entry tasks. Driving is likely to be part of required work activities. Use of hand-held objects such as pens, calculators and staplers, as well as telephones will also be occasional to frequent. Employees will also need to operate printers, copiers and a range of other office equipment and refill paper trays and ink supplies.
