The April General Membership Meeting has been changed to Thursday April 20th starting at 7:00 pm. Normally, these meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month but Holy Thursday is on the second Thursday of April. Regularly scheduled meetings will return in May.
2017 / 2018 OFFICERS
The Knights of Columbus fraternal year runs from July 1st to June 30th. That means that every year each council must hold an election to fill 10 officer positions. Every year our council is in need of men willing to step up and lead other men. At our April 20th membership meeting we will be accepting nominations for these positions. These names will then be published in the May newsletter. Then at the May 11th membership meeting we will accept final nominations and hold the election of officers. Please consider adding your name to our list of leaders.
TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE 2017
Many Volunteers Needed! Tootsie Roll Drive 2017 Our annual fundraiser for People with Intellectual Disabilities will be held rain or shine on April 28 - 30, 2017 at 4 area businesses and after each mass that weekend. Dozens of volunteers are needed to work a 2 hour shift handing out tootsie rolls and collecting any donations received. Donations are not necessary to receive candy. Families are encouraged to volunteer together! Bring the kids or grandkids. Ask that neighbor or friend who’s been thinking about joining the Knights to join you for a shift. This is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and a chance to make the good works of the KC’s more visible in the communities we serve. Donations collected are distributed to 3 separate charities: Special Olympics of MN, ARC of the Greater Twin Cities, and Friendship Ventures. Here’s the current list of businesses where we’ll be volunteering on 4/28 and 4/29: Bills Oak Grove - 3271 Viking Blvd Caseys St Francis- 3480 Bridge Street NW County Market St Francis- 23122 St Francis Blvd NW Super America East Bethel- 1341 187th Ln NE 2 EASY WAYS TO SIGN UP: Call/text me at 612-219-8854 or email me at shawnschepp@hotmail. com.
Knights of Columbus Insurance
Plan For This Tax Day And Into The Future
April 15 (tax day) is right around the corner. It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehicle. Or perhaps someone has tried to convince you to open an account, touting the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason. Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax return. And, our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of principal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does retirement income that you cannot outlive — guaranteed — sound to you? Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can – properly structured – guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee — along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember – absolute safety of principal) — really will provide you with peace of mind. I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance, disability income and long-term care insurance plans.

WE MADE THE DONUTS
Thank you Mike Eischeid, Mark Vogel, Mike Ravnes, Terry Rhodes, Jeff Ricker and Carl Jorgenson for making donuts on Saturday March 11th. Mike, Mark and Mike started at 7am frying the donuts. Then Terry, Jeff and Carl showed up around 9am to decorate the donuts with sugar and/ or frosting and/or sprinkles. The fruits of their labor were served after all Masses that weekend. This was the second time the KCs have made the donuts this year and completes our 2017 commitment.

IRONMENS CONFERENCE April 1st
St Patrick’s Church will be hosting its third annual Ironmen Men’s Conference the morning of Saturday April 1st. This year’s guest speaker will be Sean Forrest. Sean has witnessed at many men’s conferences in the U.S. and often is called to focus on the role of men in the family and the Church. So often, men need the strongest wake-up call to “get in the game” and embrace their Godgiven roles. Sean powerfully shares his personal experiences as a man, a husband and a father working to lead his family in faith. The day begins with Mass at 8:00 am, breakfast at 8:30, the conference at 9:00, followed by lunch from Acapulco Restaurant at noon. Registration is $35 (non-refundable) and forms are available at St Patrick’s information station or online at https://st-patricks.org then click on the “Men’s Conference” link.
BINGO APRIL 1st
The council’s annual Ham Bingo will be held the evening of Saturday April 1st following the 5:00 Mass. This is always a great family event so bring the kids. We play 20 games of Bingo with every winner receiving an Easter ham reward. The cost is 25¢ per card per game so for only $20 a family can play 4 cards all night long. A free hot dog and chips supper is provided right after Mass.
Donations Needed
In order to maximum our donations, we ask KC members to donation toward the purchase of dinner supplies and hams. Whatever you can afford to donate will be greatly appreciated. $5, $10, it doesn’t matter. Contact Mark Landwehr at 763-434-3905 or at landmarkconcrete.
[email protected] to donate.
Volunteers Needed
To make the evening enjoyable for our guests we need at least 20 guys to serve food, wait tables and clean up after. We start at 4:00 pm setting up tables and chairs. Most guys can then go to 5:00 Mass, coming back after to wait tables, serving popcorn and beverages. Finally we clean up and get the hall back in shape. Contact Mark Landwehr at 763-434-3905 or at
[email protected] to volunteer.
EASTER EGG HUNT
April 16th
The Circles of Claddagh are hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt again this year. As usual they have asked the KCs to help “hide” a couple hundred candy ladened plastic Easter eggs. Weather permitting, we need 3 or 4 guys at church at 8:00 am Easter morning. We’ll be done in plenty of time to get a good pew before Mass. No need to call, just show up. Thanks for your help.
MARCH FOR LIFE
MAY 20 th
The Knights will be assisting the Pregnancy Resource Center with this year’s “March for Life” fundraiser on Saturday morning May 20th. We will be in need of many people that morning. Some to direct traffic, some to register walkers and many many more to do the walking for life. Thanks to everyone’s efforts we now have two centers to support so we will be holding two walks this year. One in Cambridge and one in East Bethel. Additional information will be available in St Pat’s Bulletins and in our May Newsletter. But start planning now to bring the family and get sponsors.
HIGHWAY CLEANUP April 15th (9:00 am)
Our semiannual Highway Clean-up project for 2017 begins on Saturday April 15th immediately following the KC Breakfast Bunch. We need 8 able bodied men to gather in the Oak Roads Restaurant parking lot around 9am to don our reflective vests and receive our own personal plastic garbage bags. We then spread out along County Road 78, between County 58 and 22 and spend about an hour collecting the trash people left along the road this winter. No need to sign-up, just show up. Thank you in advance for you help
SPRING RECYCLING EVENTS
A good portion of the council’s funds are collected by our recycling efforts. Every spring and fall some cities allow us to attend their community recycling day and collect old car/boat/tractor batteries which we then turn in at the recycling center in Cambridge and get paid by the pound. If you can help out at any of these locations, contact Mike Eischeid at 612-875-5431 to volunteer. Thank you in advance for helping.
Andover
April 29 (8:30am till 1:00pm)
We need 1 or 2 men to collect used batteries for 4 1/2 hours. It would help if one of you has a pick-up or small trailer to haul the batteries to the recycling center.
Oak Grove
April 29 (8:30am till 2:00pm)
We need 1 or 2 men to collect used batteries for 5 1/2 hours. It would help if one of you has a pick-up or small trailer to haul the batteries to the recycling center.
St Francis
April 29 (7:30am till 1:00pm)
We need 6 able bodied men to transfer stuff from cars, trucks and trailers into dumpsters for 5 1/2 hours. This is a dirty job but someone has to do it and the city pays the council an hourly wage for each man working. We also collect used batteries so it would help if one of you has a pick-up or small trailer to haul the batteries to the recycling center.
Lino Lakes
May 6 (8:30am till 3:00pm)
We need 1 or 2 men to collect used batteries for 6 1/2 hours. It would help if one of you has a pick-up or small trailer to haul the batteries to the recycling center.
St Patrick’s Church
all the time
If you didn’t already know, the council maintains a can wagon in St Pat’s north parking lot. We’d appreciate it if you would collect pop cans at home and then drop them in our can wagon. This wagon fills up several times each year and at those times we haul it to the recycling center. Depending on the price of aluminum that day the council receives at least a couple hundred dollars each time.
