New CJTE Classes! - REGISTER NOW ================================ SHIVIM PANIM: From Slavery to Sinai Shemot, Part I The Book of Shemot is filled with drama and dilemma. Leadership, bravery, favor and doubt are just some of the words that can be used to describe the critical moments that serve as the textual basis of these engaging and modern commentaries, spanning hundreds of years of thought and reflection. Students will consider for themselves the questions posed by the Biblical texts and then compare and contrast the possible solutions. As with all Shivim Panim courses, textual commentaries will be accompanied by artwork and other alternative interpretations of the Biblical texts. little conversation about God and faith. Whether that is due to the challenges of science or secularism, the Holocaust, or a narrow and triumphant evangelism that leaves little room for doubt or difference of opinion, is impossible to know. The truth is that many Jews are looking for a place to talk about God and issues related to faith and doubt. This four-week seminar will provide participants the opportunity to do just that: to explore questions of faith and doubt in an open, safe and yet stimulating environment. Through a variety of modes - dialogue, text study, dramatics, reflective writing and more - the relationship of heart and mind to faith will be contemplated. Participants will leave with a richer understanding of themselves and new insights into the process of "getting to God." FACULTY: Rabbi Marc J.
