Kowloon Learning Campus Consultation February 2015
An all through education for ESF Kowloon students (BG) • The Kowloon Learning Campus will develop an innovative seamless approach to all through education building on the success of the three individual schools. This approach will be ground breaking; it will be informed by best practice from around the world and the expertise of Kowloon Learning Campus staff. • It will therefore be different from purpose built through schools like Renaissance College or Discovery College. • We have resolved many of the initial practical considerations but many more plans will develop when the senior leadership team for the Campus has been finalized and we can start the collaborative journey together.
Impact on learning: 7 Aims (BG) 1. Developing curriculum continuity across the three schools 2. Informing teaching through an improved understanding of student experiences in the other schools 3. Increasing opportunities for the inclusion of all students in appropriate activities 4. Coordinating strategies for student individual support across the schools 5. Increasing student use of specialist resources (people and facilities) 6. Developing learning technology solutions across the campus 7. Encouraging lifelong learning through deepening links with Universities and the wider Hong Kong community

KGV Admissions Patterns (BG) • Will all KJS students have the right to go to KGV ? • What will be the impact of this on numbers transferring from CWBS and BHS ? • Will there be re-zoning in the light of this change and the movement of Island School ?
Impact on CWBS and BHS • As the admission numbers show, if all KJS students are entitled to transfer to KGV there could be 7 – 10 additional places needed at KGV for KJS students. Only 4 KJS students this year wanted a place at KGV but were allocated Island School. So there may be a marginal reduction in places available at KGV for BHS/CWBS students. • The prioritized transition work on Kowloon Learning Campus will develop best practice strategies which will then be used with CWBS/BHS. We give a commitment to ensure all three schools benefit from the concentrated work in Kowloon.
Timeframe • We took advantage of the chance to develop something innovative • The timeframe is tight for August 2015 but manageable • April: Appointment of Heads of KJS and KGV to form Campus Senior Leadership Team (with Executive Principal and Principal of JCSRS) • May: Develop draft strategic vision for the Kowloon Learning Campus and priorities for 2015/16 • June: Publish draft plans to the wider community • July: Kowloon Learning Campus Offices established in JCSR Centre (Second Floor), physical links improved between schools • August: Kowloon Learning Campus opens
Costs and savings Start up costs: • JCSR Centre (2nd Floor) as administrative centre for campus (minimal cost) • Senior leadership staffing costs • Provide link between KJS, KGV and JCSRS, improve disability access (low cost) Medium term financial benefits: • Administrative savings through campus wide support • Increasing income through site lettings, development initiative Cost neutral by year 3
