In order to identify talented young pupils from very early stages the NCERT is organising the National Talent Search Examination at Class VIII level.

To minimise the number of competitors at National level, a State Level Screening Test will be conducted in November at Class VIII level. The National Level Examination will be conducted in May in the succeeding year.

One Thousand scholarships will be awarded to the National Level winners. Of these, 225 will be reserved for the Schedule Castes/ Scheduled Tribes and 30 for physically challenged group of children.

ELIGIBILITY FOR APPEARING FOR THE SCREENING TEST. Only those pupils who are studying in Class VIII of any government/ aided/ recognised schools/ Kendriya Vidyalaya/ Navodaya Vidyalaya during 2010 -2011 are eligible to appear for the screening test and for the second level examination to be conducted by the NCERT in May 2011.

For the State Level Screening Test, only those pupils who have secured not less than C+ grade (50% - 55%) for all the nonlanguage subjects in the qualifying examination of Class VII of 2009-’10 will be admitted. This is to be certified by the Head of Institution.

Pupils who wish to apply for the screening test should ascertain the grade they have got in the nonlanguage subjects for the final examination in Class VII during 2009-’10 from the school authorities before procuring application forms.

Pupils can download the Application form and other details for the State Level NTS Exam from the SCERT’s website: www.scert.kerala.gov.in or the website of the IT@School - www.itschool.gov.in. Specimen application form is also available at the Office of the District Educational Officer of the district concerned. Examination fee for Rs.100/- and filled in application form should be submitted to the school in which the candidate is studying. However, pupils of SC/ ST and BPL categories are exempted from paying the examination fee. Application fee for all the candidates in a school should be collected in cash and remitted by a single demand draft and sent along with the application forms, with a covering letter of the head of the institution. The applications should be accompanied by the demand draft drawn on or before 31. Aug. 2010. The application form and the admission card should be properly filled in. It should be certified duly by the Head of the Institution. The demand draft should be drawn in favour of The Director, SCERT payable at SBT Service Branch, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram (see the instructions on pages 5,6 and 7 before filling in the application form).

PROCEDURE OF THE TEST

The screening test will be conducted in 38 educational districts and in Lakshadweep. The list of the Examination Centres with the Code Number in each Educational District is given in page 7.

The second part will consist of 90 questions on Scholastic Aptitude in non language subjects namely, Social Science, General Science and Mathematics. THE SECOND LEVEL TEST

5.1

The SCERT will send the data cards of the selected candidates soon after the declaration of results of the State Level Test to the NCERT with all details for further communication.

The NCERT will directly inform the candidates the time and venue of the Second Level Examination.
